I won't vote for anyone because I feel sorry for him. Being a POW does not qualify a man to be president by default. His war record is commendable, but that doesn't change the fact that he has more times than not voted with GWB on key issues. It's only slander if it's not true. Look how he is back peddling on his economic statements after last Mondays Wall St fiasco. The presidential debate will be interesting.

If anything, the economy is the thing that should be on everyones mind right now. We know by what McCain has said before that he would have never bailed out these companies this week. He is not prepared for what the economy has in store for him. And nor is Sarah.

In 2000 John McCain was smeared with some of the most vicious lies ever said by one Republican against another in the South Carolina primary. The lies worked and Bush won, forcing the Senator to give up his quest for the White House.

Now you may not like him because of his party, and you may not like him because of his support for the war in Iraq, but to associate him with Bush and worse, insult him so childishly is really beyond the pale. John McCain is a good man and a good enough Senator of the state of Arizona to have been reelected to his office numerous times.

Are you willing to slander an American hero for your candidate to make it to the White House? Is this how you want to be remembered?
Amazing! Watched a video of McCain getting off a bus when he was repatriated to the US. What was amazing was that it shows McCain lifting both arms above his shoulders!

At least McCain has the courage to vote either "yes" or "no" rather than "present". Only a coward who is afraid to stand behind what they believe would do such a thing. You can't make everyone happy, unless you vote present of course.

You would have to be a total idiot to vote for someone because they live in the same state or because they were the same gender, or same color, or the same team.

Unfortunately, too many voters fall into that category.

Very true coastalrap.
Too many do fall into the same category. You forgot religion which could mean the same team.
I for one wish we would keep religion OUT of politics. I am a christian but this country is for all..........muslims, jews, atheist, agnostics, buddist and Christians. If I forgot anyone I apologyze.
It is the issues that are important. Not what faith or if he/she cheats on their spouse.
We are at the crossroad of time and if the wrong road is taken, we are done.
This country is going to H in a hand bag.
The one in there now has just all but destroyed this country and he isn't out yet. Still have afew more months.

Joe Biden is a decent guy. Has he made mistakes, sure.........they all do.
John McCain is also a decent man but his policies are too much like Bushes. He as much as said he voted with Bush 90% of the time.
Obama/Biden ticket looks like the best choice at the moment.
The oposite will throw in lies and try to discredit this ticket.
Both sides do this. We have to be smart enough to recongize this, use our heads and commom sense.

I"m glad to see this topic bring some excitement to the DE forum. I began to doze off.

As far as politicians go, Biden is a pretty decent guy. Lets face it.......they all have dibbled and dabbled into shady deals.
I challenge anyone who disagrees to name one that is as pure as the driven snow.

Unless he's changed his mind...again...McCain was FOR the AIG bailout. Palin was against it. Not that it matters in the long run. What will happen as the government keeps bailing out these huge companies? Eventually the government will own controlling interest in just about every major corporation in the US. The foundation that our economic system was built on is crumbling and they are just trying to patch it, not fix it.

Obama has been saying what people have been thinking for years. McCain is telling us what he thinks we want to hear, which is on par for a typical campaign. That's why his story keeps changing. On Friday the economy was fundamentally sound. On Monday after the mess on Wall St we all of a sudden we have economic problems. Obama may not be able to bring this country back, but he is the lesser of two evils.

I am not an Obama supporter because of Biden or because of Delaware. I could care less where they come from.

I agree 100% with you. I'll echo what Kentucky Senator Jim Bunning said: "When I picked up my newspaper yesterday, I thought I woke up in France. But no, it turned out it was socialism here in the United States.''

Where we disagree is on who is to blame. I argue that blame resides with both parties, starting with Banking Chair Chris "Friend of Angelo" Dodd.
Way back on May 25, 2006 John McCain said this:
I join as a cosponsor of the Federal Housing Enterprise Regulatory Reform Act of 2005, S. 190, to underscore my support for quick passage of GSE regulatory reform legislation. If Congress does not act, American taxpayers will continue to be exposed to the enormous risk that Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac pose to the housing market, the overall financial system, and the economy as a whole.
The bill never made it out of committee - Chris Dodd's committee.

The website OpenSecrets lists congressmen who received contributions from Fannie and Freddie.

Dodd was #1. Who was number 2?

Barack Obama.

Mccain? He was #62.

As I said, there is plenty of blame to go around for the meltdown and those responsible must be held accountable.

But don't pin a crime on an innocent man, and don't allow the guilty to go scot-free.
