At least the first one had some good curb appeal going for it, along with its extreme garishness. This one is just straight up ugly. I want to say something like "A little color would go a long way." But it wouldn't. The architecture and complete rejection of 90 degree angles just make that house obnoxious, at best.
If I was going to spend a stupidly large sum of money on a home, I'd go for something more like this:

The 2nd one is awful.
It is like they finished building this hideous monstrosity and realized it was ugly and said "Hey, I've got an idea. Let's make it look modern and people will totally think this was intentional." And then they used 80s glass blocks.
GeoAggie's tudor is much more my style.

Cass Lake is a nice area, but you'll have nicer, newer properties like the one you listed combined with 70-80 year-old dumps (such is the reality of lakefront living). We just moved out of West Bloomfield (took a job out of state) after living there for 12 years. I would describe the area in the following ways:
The good:
Good schools in the WB/Walled Lake districts, iffy if you're in an area served by Waterford schools (which Cass Lake *might* be).
Very safe, low crime area, despite the proximity to Pontiac/Waterford.
Lots of lakes to choose from between WB, Commerce, and White Lake.
Because of the NW suburb location, it's fairly easy to get anywhere in the Metro area except downriver. You'll have a bit of a drive, but it's not like trying to get to, say, Ecorse from Shelby Twp.
Not much shopping traffic snarl, unless you get too close to Orchard Lake Rd.
The bad:
No direct roads leading ANYWHERE. You have to weave around lakes on 2-lane winding roads @ 35mph to get to most destinations.
If you want a wide variety of restaurants and shopping, this area is a bit limited (other than on Orchard Lk Rd). There's a restaurant right on Cass Lake that has changed owners 4 times in the 12 years we lived in the area.
The closest major malls are at least 10 miles away, which may be a good thing depending on your point of view.
