Wayne..I prefer the location and size. Belleville is small and a little too far out.

Canton or Waterford

I'd pick Waterford. I'd personally prefer having the lakes nearby and I find the traffic situation less of a problem in that area (Depending on which part of Waterford, granted). Plus having Pontiac Lake, Waterford Oaks, and Indian Springs in close proximity would be pluses for me.

Livonia or Sterling Heights

Ugh, aging middle-class suburban hell vs. aging middle-class suburban hell. Yep, you done killed it. Nah, there's draw to both those cities for many people (over 200,000 apparently!), just not for me.

Still on the table:
Livonia or Sterling Heights

I would pick Livonia. It's close to the things we need and it would be an easy commute to work.

Jimmy252-I agree about Waterford. I like that area. I live close to Canton but rarely go there. The traffic is a huge problem and I avoid it as much as I can.

Clawson or Shelby Township

Clawson for the old school charm. Shelby looks like kind of big box strip mall thing for me.

Troy.

Livonia is worn, badly laid out and has very little to bring anyone there. Troy at least has a fancy mall and more open space. (Although the police being used for city funding make me drive around troy whenever possible. Livonia is better located too (nicely placed between Detroit and Ann Arbor, super close to DTW). Less traffic to get there. Plus it has the tiny 900 s.f. house where I was born and lived for 8 years with my parents and three siblings. I like to drive by and marvel that so many of us lived in a place that looks to be the size of our kitchen. (not really - it is twice the size of our kitchen). That does bring up a point though Livonia has more variety in its housing stock.

So flip flop - Livonia.

Lets get dirty.

Inkster or River Rouge?

Don't know much about River Rouge but they don't seem to get as much negative news as Inkster so I'll take it.

Ypsilanti or Harper Woods?

Ypsilanti. It seems like it used to be rougher and is currently headed in a desirable direction. While I know little about Harper Woods, what I've gleaned from these forums tells me that it used to be nicer and is headed in a less desirable direction. Plus, Ypsi has that cool college-town/hipster vibe to it, and while I may be about 8 years too old for that now, I still appreciate being around it.

Also, Re: Jomz, Shelby TWP seems like a big box of strip malls, because it totally is. The way I've had Shelby described to me is that it's a great place to live if all you care about is the size of your house.

Ann Arbor or Midtown, Detroit?

Ann Arbor. I enjoy meeting the different people that come to the University and the VA from all over the world. The downtown area has a nice mix of nightlife. I enjoy the lakes and parks that surround the city. The city is clean and welcoming.
