Northville has Maybury State Park, Northville Downs (for this year only), Hines Drive, nice-sized downtown district, historic housing stock, elite public schools, uber-wealth, a lot of McMansions, and a huge insane asylum.

Clarkston has lakes everywhere, a charming Main Street, more rural feel, but is too far up north for me.

I go with Northville.

People keep comparing one place I know very well with a place I know nothing about. When we first decided to move back to Michigan from California, we were going to buy a house in Taylor because I wanted to be able to walk or bike to work. The people at the place I was intending to work were mortified. However There was a lot of appeal to the house we were looking at (especially the price). It backed up to Heritage Park which is really neat. WCCC was just down the street. A huge very active church almost across the street and a mall for the kids to have a destination was within an easy bike ride. The house was neat and had an indoor pool, a huge garage and sat on three acres of land. Sure the schools were pretty bad, but we were accustomed to dealing with bad schools.

People almost yelled at us when I told them we were considering that house. I still wonder if it would not have been a pretty neat location to be.

OK I will choose Taylor for Hertiage park, WCCC and a somewhat ratter but still serviceable mall.

Farmington or Trenton?

I'll take Trenton just because living "downriver" seems more to my likeling than up around 96/696.
I honestly don't know much about Trenton so I'm taking a chance.

Clinton or Manchester

Either is a pretty good choice IMO. Trenton has a wonderful county park on the water, a frozen custard place and a cute little downtown with a few neat restaurants. Plus you can buy a pretty nice house on the water for not much$.

Manchester. Because if I'm going to live in the middle of no where, I want to live in the middle of no where, surrounded by trees, farms, and nature. Clinton is still the middle of no-where, but it's the bad kind of middle of no where that is surrounded by suburban sprawl, parking lots, and winding subdivision roads that make no sense. It's basically Canton, but in Macomb County. Yuck.

This one is for the Urban Pioneers!

Core City, Detroit vs. Highland Park -- Which rougher neighborhood is going to stabilize and gentrify first? The one near Ford's new complex, or the one sandwiched along Woodward between Midtown/New Center and the Southeast Oakland County suburbs?

I was talking about Clinton Michigan, about 12 miles SW of Saline not Clinton Township.

I guess I'll take HP. At least HP has some stable blocks. But for that reason, Core City will probably gentrify faster though since it's already mostly empty.

I'll take Far Haven since Gibraltar is a 12 hour $3600 plane ride.

You did not propose a new pair of cities to evaluate.
