Yesterday done all checks on fingers and all before meals. Today, doing all checks on fingers and 2 hrs after meals. Will compare today with yesterday. Read that readings taken 2 hrs after meals can be 30 numbers higher than before meals.
My meter info says that I can test in the following locations: forearm, upper arm, thigh and finger. But, most Internet diabetic sites say finger with no mention of any other area. Why is this?
Getting "even readings" is very hard to do, just as "when to test for best readings" and what foods to eat to get good readings. Also read that diabetes doesn't necessarly happen from poor eating, but also from quanitity food eaten. Your opinion???
May be time to give up the sugar substitutes. It can cause spikes in blood sugar. Try stevia or just weaning back till you don't use it.

Overeating wears out the pancreas because it has to produce so much insulin to balance the calorie load. I do think its true because most diabetics (II)overeat (along with being genetically prone to it) or eat poorly. The body is only made to handle about 200-400 calories every 3 hours are so. Thats where that 3 meals and 2 snacks comes into play as part of a healthy diet.

Here is some nutritional info:
Eating Well with Type 2 Diabetes

You can also log what you eat and get exercises there too based on personal customization.

Just on your testing...are you taking note as to when you take your sugar pill? (meta)
That will affect the results greatly. My father would forget his or delay it and it would spike his sugar. Take that pill always at the same time of day.

First thing in the morning fasting and 2hrs after your evening meal is the norm. Some doctors ask for 3 to 4 times a day. When a patient is first diagnosed with the kind of sugar levels that you are reporting it is important to test often because a doctor needs to be able to see if the medications are doing what they are supposed to do or if there needs to be an adjustment in medications. From what you are saying it sounds like you also have a cholesterol problem as well and diet and exercise will help bring both of these numbers down.
increase fish, soy, oats and nuts, decrease refined flours and sugar, red meats, fried foods, exercise 2-3 times a week 30min weight bearing exercise.
Also you shouldn't have to do a solution test check so often on your meter. The finger is the most common place to test, however there are these new meters that are made specifically for the forarm which is what my son has and its alot less painful and requires a smaller amount of blood.
The test strips are definately extremely expensive especially if you have to test often. You should check with someone in your doctors office to see if they have any programs available thru the pharmaceutical company to get free or at a discount test strips.
It sounds like you're trying to do all the right things to keep yourself healthy, changing your diet and eating habits will hopefully keep you from having to go on insulin. If you take care of yourself now and do whats necessary for your health you can prevent future health complications from this horrible disease.
My father battled diabetes for most of his life and this past year he decided that he had had enough and stopped taking his insulin, couple of months after that he had to have his leg amputated and two months after that he passed away, i have a son that has diabetes as well and unfortunately having seen what his grandfather went thru has done nothing for my 20yr old son to want to take better care of himself.
I am a firm believer that if you take care of yoursel and do what needs to be done you can have a long good life. Also i think it's important to have a good doctor that actually sits down and listens to a patient, i have worked for many doctors and too often i see these doctors that have their hand on the door and patients are usually just a number. If you are unable to attend these so called diabetic classes your doctor should be able to give you the same information and answer all of your questions. Next time you make an appointment with your doctor let the receptionist know that you have alot of things to go over with the doctor and to give you more than just a 10min spot, make a list of all your questions and concerns and don't let the doctor walk out the door before he has gone thru all your concerns, as a patient you have the right to ask these things from your doctor. If your doctor is unable to provide this service to you, then it's time to find a new doctor.
Good luck to you.

I am not meaning to be rude, but the biscuits/gravy for breakfast is probably going to have to stop. You are definitely going to need to sit sown with a nutritionist so you can get a base on carb counting and such. My daughter has been a juvenile diabetic for 14 years now, and biscuits/gravy for breakfast is a no-no!!! Carbs are not your friends when you are a diabetic. Good luck to you:-)
