Geese everywhere. You are required to stop for them when they cross the road (takes forever); so perhaps that's where they get their look of entitlement?

They are not on my street either. But we have a beatiful park and pond across the street and it looks so lovely to actually walk around the lake/pond. But when you actually do it; it's not so lovely because of all the geese crap. WHICH Lucy thinks was placed there just for her dining enjoyment.

sounds JUST like bailey and dave..... with rabbit poop for dessert.....

I just don't understand how my little princess ~ who doesn't like to get dirty OR get her feet wet; can chow down on all the geese droppings.

My post is a protest to the biblical dictate that humans are above "other animals." I reject this idea as being abusive . . .

You must not comprehend that male dogs MUST mark territory . . . it is their job . . . if you try to impede that, you are abusive, period.

Another point I would like to make is that lawns are useless and wasteful. A better use of a front yard is a vegetable or flower garden . . . and I assume you can fence off "your" land, so do it!!! Dogs don't climb fences the last I checked!

Seriously, don't you have anything more serious to complain about? Maybe go volunteer at the nearest animal shelter with all the time you have on your hands!
I totally agree about lawns, we don't have one, our dogs can run on the grass at the park or the sand on the beach. We also have a fenced dog run.
Our front yard is native vegetation; our flowers and veggies are in pots.
As someone said much earlier in the thread--where dogs pee/poop is always a hot topic.
As I said in #36, it is the little things that, here and there, can diminish a community. Of course animals have no sense of private property, but dog and cat owners do.
Where we live, we are a far cry from the Broken Window theory, but we would like to keep it that way. However, we're not anal (no pun intended) about it. As Bowian says, it is not a mortal sin.

Exactly.

Maybe the problem is that a dog is not appropriate in highly urban situations?

We don't pick up after our dog nor does anyone else. And compared to the horse dong who would notice?
Olecapt, I don't think dogs are inappropriate in highly urban situations.
Wherever there is human society, there are probably going to be canines, and the poop comes with the territory.
Different norms develop for different types of communities.

I well remember goose poop. My dogs loved it. Here we get egret droppings; thank goodness they just sort of disintegrate.

My sidewalks are 2 feet wide. A good portion of the neighborhood does not have any space between the sidewalk and the street. Dog is on a 6 foot leash. Where is she supposed to go? On the sidewalk? In the street? The more logical answer is "on the grass within 2-3 feet of the sidewalk". I do not let her trespass onto people's front porches, through their planters, or to the middle of the yards. She does, however, go on the edge of their lawns. I promptly pick it up and throw it away.

Seriously, what do people suggest I do? Put her in the car and drive her to the nearest public park 3x a day for her walks so she can relieve herself on public property?

Has you seen the movie Bruce Almighty? Jennifer Aniston has a dog that goes to the bathroom after Bruce gets his powers. I'm kidding. I wish I could get my dog to go in the bathroom but I think the backyard will have to suffice. I do share your frustration when I lived in a apartment complex and taking my dog out to the common areas. Never got a complaint about him pooping out there (I always picked it up),just about him barking madily at a young child sitting on the stairway with a hoodie and his head down. I'm not sure who was more worried: my dog or me since it was 11 pm on a school night.

Scarily enough, my dog is probably smart enough to figure that out--she's balanced on stranger things Poor little dogs though...they would have to use children's training potties or they'd fall in!

The logic here is precisely what gets me to sling dog owners' dung right back at them. Yep, you read it correctly. And its the reason for the complete lack of consideration for other people's property. Maybe YOU dont have a lawn but other people who do have to cut it, might want to have their kids play on it, etc. We shouldnt have to land in your dog's crap.

"Where is she supposed to go? On the sidewalk? In the street?" Are you serious? Really? That is your "logic"? How about I follow you home and I sling that dog crap against your garage door or car or front door? While we're disrespecting each other. why should it matter?

People need to get some brains. Its not MY burden to pick up your dog crap. We're not a TOTAL socialist nation.......... yet.

woof .... sensing you have an inconsiderate neighbor or something.....

NO ONE has advocated letting a dog poop in the neighbor's yard and NOT picking it up.... quite the contrary..... most of the people posting in this particular forum are responsible dog owners who resent irresponsible dog owners making life tougher for all of us....

try a chill pill or something.....
