Unless the economy rises like a Phoenix, Obama will be back to community organizing in 2013.

But perhaps I am wrong.

Tell me how. Please be specific.

By the way, I feel that it would take a crop of candidates FAR worse than we have now to find one that would lose to Obama under the above stated conditions.

Most people don't follow politics that closely. After the HUNDREDS OF THOUSANDS OF HOURS of political advertisements that will be aired from now until then I think people will vote for any sort of change. (Now where have I heard that word "change" before? )

Hope don't pay the mortgage.

It's easy. If the GOP nominates a Sarah Palin/Michele Bachmann, who is highly polarizing and gaffe-prone, then independents and some Republicans will hold their nose and vote for Obama.

...and if they nominate Romney(care), then the Tea Partiers will split the vote on the right.

Okay - suppose you hire a contractor (we'll call him Contractor A) for some roofing or something. The contractor comes by, bills you, does a terrible job, and your roof is in shambles.

So along comes another contractor (we'll call him Contractor B), saying that "Yes, we can" fix it. You fire the old contractor, he looks at the horrible work the Contractor A did, charges a bunch of money, then looks at the roof. He fixes a little of it, but also spends most of his time complaining about how bad of a job Contractor A did and how he can't really do anything. The roof is still in shambles.

So Contractor C comes begging for your business. Contractor C is best friends with Contractor A, and hates Contractor B. He says "look at how terrible of a job Contractor B has done," and that you should hire him instead. The problem is that while it is true that Contractor B might have done a poor job, there is no evidence to suggest that Contractor C would do better, and that a comparable guy (Contractor A) also did a poor job.

So in other words, it depends on what you believe.

"who is highly polarizing and gaffe-prone"

Sound like you're talking about little barry jugears.

Only Socialists believe it is the job o the government or President to creat jobs or run the housing industry.

Because there will be more news like this:

Stocks soar on housing data - Google News

and Americans will go for the message of "don't change course just as we're digging our way out."

Americans are impatient when things are going poorly, but when things brighten up, they will accept the fact that some things do really take time.

My question is what does the GOP plan on doing about jobs and the housing market?
Before you reply be aware that most of us already know the answer.

hes also the incumbent, which alone makes it more difficult.

people know obama, he is familiar. people dont know the other candidates, and the other candidates may be worse.

the op is an admitted republican though so its pointless to even debate this, since his mind is already made up.

Here's how:

-Obama gets nearly 100 percent of the black vote.

-Obama will now get an even larger percentage of the Hispanic vote thanks to all this immigration legislation passed by Republicans. Republicans are completely clueless as to the damage they've done.

-Out of the current crop of potential GOP candidates, many are unappealing even to Republicans.

-Teachers and other government employees will come out in droves to vote as they are so insulted by what's going on in Wisconsin and other places. This is a large group of people whose size is often underestimated.

Also, Obama is excellent at debating and campaigning. That alone is likely enough.
