perry is surprisingly very poor in this format. he certainly isn't as quick of mind as Romney, huntsman, paul, gingrich, or cain. How he is championed as the R savior is mindboggling.
It's certainly no surprise to Texans.
The rest of the USA is finally seeing Perry for what he is - an empty suit.
Nothing new from the party of bigots. Small govt, low taxes, more plans that never worked under Bush, Reagan.....simply pathetic. Only Santorum addressed the fact that whatever plans they have, they must pass Democrats in Congress. The others appear oblivious to this fact or didn't want to address it for obvious reasons.
Perry was horrible tonight. He came in as a frontrunner and I predict he will sink back down, even against some of his 'base'. However, the man needed a teleprompter. Badly. He couldn't string together 3 coherent sentences, even on topics that he KNEW would come up (e.g., the climate change issue).
Romney held his own again and masterfully handled a balance between attacking Perry but still bringing up clear facts. His defense of Social Security over the Perry Ponzi Scheme rhetoric was actually very, very well done. I think he really helped to secure more senior Republican voters, a key constituency for the South Carolina primary, which in 2008 helped propel McCain to the top.
Huntsman didn't do enough tonight, yet again. I found some of his answers to be awkward.
Paul was his old self but came off a little more extreme. I also don't understand his tactic of attacking Perry.
Cain was his typical self. But this '9-9-9' plan is just too gimmicky.
Bachmann sounded silly this debate and I think really lost some of the shine she briefly got from Iowa. Bad news for her, but the fall of Perry could help her.

The dems won't retake the House, so that doesn't apply.
And the GOP might just take the 13 seats needed for 60 in the Senate. 23 dems seats are up.
So if all goes right, they won't need any democrats.
