I wonder however, why so many Americans continue to participate in this sham, despite knowing that both candidates are merely puppets?
Don't vote; don't whine.
Pretty simple.

Imagine if over 70% of persons simply did not go to the polls to vote for the presidential candidate. The joke would be on the candidate who was 'elected' into office, because he wouldn't be able to hide behind a supposed "mandate."

It's a mandate of voters.
Duh.
Perhaps it's a good thing that you don't vote.

I like the thinking. But for me it isn't the political system I want to target, it's the food industry. These days food is too processed with too many questionable ingredients. So it is my contention that we as Americans ought to show the food industry were we stand, and the best way to do that is to stop eating. Who is with me on this? And oh, by the way, if we stop eating, we also won't be able to go to the polls in a few weeks. So it'll take care of that problem too.

The exact same thing can be accomplished by voting for third party candidates, only the message would be far clearer. The person wouldn't be able to say "those that care gave me a mandate." I don't know what anyone hopes to accomplish by advocating that people throw away one of the most precious rights ever granted by a nation to its people, the right to have a say in who governs you. Every state has at least one 3rd party candidate on the ballot, most have a lot more. Chose one and vote!

if 70% of the people that are eligible to vote dont vote, and that number is about right anyway, then the minority decide who is president. is that what you REALLY want? if the truth be told, the reality is that the majority of the people in this country are apathetic and voting, and have been for quite sometime. if they were to actually get out and vote, and demand better candidates, then chances are good that better candidates would come along.

but we have to do one other thing was well, and that is get the media as a whole back closer to neutrality in regards to the way they cover candidates. when the majority of the media in this country gives a pass to one candidate, and excoriates the other, you get a lot of potential candidates sitting on the sidelines because they dont want to be the one excoriated in the press.

for instance, what was done to sarah palin in 2008 would NEVER have been done 30 years ago. and teh pass that was given to obama in 2008 would NEVER have been done 30 years ago either. the press would have more properly vetted obama and palin, and the people would have been better informed.

I guess this is your way of poking fun at this important topic. Now I understand why so many people call Americans stupid. Most Americans do not want to face reality. Your vote won't mean anything, irrespective of whichever president is in the white house. At the end of the day, the wars will continue and your rights will continue to be eroded.

Now carry on and be sure to head out to those polls on election day, extra early to cast your presidential vote!

That's why I'm not going to bother. Aside from some of the rhetoric, Romney and Obama are two sides of the same coin. Same wars, same bailouts, both would have signed the NDAA, etc.

How can we get the media back to neutrality when a handful of very rich people own the major networks? Do you think that all of the celebrity gossip, and irrelevant "news" coverage is simply by accident? LOL

Also, why would the elite be interested in having an informed public that actually demands more of the presidential candidates? An informed educated public is very dangerous, because smart people tend to ask a lot of questions and are often able to come up w/ their own very viable solutions.
