I think 2016 is going to really open up for the GOP if Clinton is not running.

Many of us would agree with you..Even if she does run, which is very much up in the air, right now, there are, at least 3 or 4, if not more outstanding young, GOP possible candidates that could give any Democrat a run for their money. I am not so niave to say, the GOP will take over the Whitehouse in 2016, but they certainly stand at least a 50/50 chance of it happening.

For starters everyone needs to watch: Rubio, Rand Paul, maybe Jindal, Christie (regardless of some Republicans views of him, including mine) dark horse Susana Martinez and Kelly Ayotte as well. These are just starters. I don't see Paul Ryan, I don't think he has enough charisma, but he does have the right ideas.Well, if we want to save our country from total bankruptsy and end up like Greece, he has the right ideas.

The Democrats have a different problem. Mrs. Clinton, the likely choice, has been weakened by her stroke and I do not think she will ever recover the energy needed to survive either a Presidential campaign or the Presidency after elected. The only reason Reagan survived is he simply did not or was unable to pay full attention to his job. He was perfectly happy to play the best gig of his life – President of the United States. Cheney was his director.
I do not know any Democrats currently bidding to follow the Obama presidency so I won’t make any predictions. I will, however, state that we New Hampshire Democrats will be working very hard to get rid of the remaining Republican Senator as well as control of the State Legislature and Senate. We will, I hope, let the gun nuts get anything they want and crush them on the rest of their regressive agenda.

Great post, and that's an excellent point re: all the right wing billionaires and media bloviator$ who will still keep this freak show alive and running, regardless the election results!

Default My hope for the Republican Nomination. The Ideal Republican Candidate

I hope the Republican Party nominates someone who will:

Place the constitution above all by eliminating all gun control laws that reduce a citizens right to be armed anywhere they want to be.

Repeal Row v Wade and make any and all abortions criminal.

Require contraception to only be available for life threatening medical reasons.

Free Wall Street from onerous regulation.

Eliminate the EPA and allow all energy companies operate without regulation on emissions or prices.

Require all schools to start home room with the Pledge of Allegiance and a reading from the Holy Bible.

Require all schools to teach Creationism and Intelligent design as part of Real Science class.

Make Christianity and only Christianity the one and only legal religion in the US. Prosecute any pagans that refuse the One True church.

Return the US to real money by recognizing Gold as the only real store of wealth.

Eliminate regulation, licensing and controls on the Medical and Pharmaceutical industries.

Remove Obamacare, Medicare and Medicaid.

Expand the Military and set them on the mission to Christianize the rest of the world.

Deregulate the auto industry and eliminate fuel mileage requirements.

Eliminate all equal opportunity laws and return to the proper White way of life.

Repeal the 13th amendment.

Stop any and all child support payments, alimony and shared possession laws.

Eliminate the minimum wage requirements and open the borders to immigration from other White countries.

it would be a thrill to have a prominent Republican run on this platform. We need to restore the natural order of things and operate as we did in the good Old Christian Days.

My God, the bloviating triumphalism of you people is forever stuck on autopilot, regardless of whether or not the Democratic party survives an election.

The heir to President Obama's throne has yet to be decided by your media blowhards, and I intuitively find it difficult to believe that American bluebots chanting Democratic talking points on CityData have the credentials to forecast a presidential election taking place three years from now.

Have fun, though.

Greg, I won't bother to repsond to all your less than brillant? idea on the list, but I will to one, The Pres would have a really hard time overturning Roe versus Wade, that would be up to the supreme court and we all know this will never happen, not in our lifetime anyway...

The reason there is no democratic person lining up to follow obama is no one will want to be held accountable for his and the democratic parties complete and utter attack on anything good for our Nation while promoting a socialistic-democratic/near commie agenda. Proof thier policies are wrong? GREECE ! All the current promoted policies of the demwit democratic party are EXACTLY the policies that were put in place in Greece and we see where they are now. In complete and utter disgrace, so far in debt that they are dragging down the entire EU, and no light at the end of the self destructiive tunnel. But that is because it's a dead end tunnel. I love the USA more than to let that happen here. Begs the question; what will it take for people to pull their heads out of thier rearends and see the democratic party is the internal destruction of the USA, the very enemy the Constitution warns us about.

the 9 seats held by democrats up for election are in California, Oregon, Washington, New York, New Hampshire, Connecticut,Nevada, Colorado and Maryland

The DNC senate reelection organization may not even have to spend a Dime in CA,WA,NY,CT, or MD so they will have money to spend in the swing states and reliably blue states that got taken in the 2010 Red tide of republicans.

any Red state i didnt name is not in play.
Arkansas is not in play. The republicans now have both houses and pryor is worried. Democrats aren't all that popular with much of the voting public.
