You say that you would love it, but would you support it, and would others of a similar bent support it in high enough numbers so that Mrs. Clinton would be vanquished next year?
The fact that I'm willing to vote for a corrupt, pandering, authoritarian cow like Hillary... that should tell you pretty clearly what I think of the Republican Party. I called myself a Republican 15 years ago, and then I saw what Bush and his ilk have done to this country. If the GOP were to nominate Mohammad Himself they wouldn't get my vote.

So like I said, I would love to see Republicans start acting like decent human beings. But they still wouldn't get my vote.

Nor would most black people vote for ANY Republican candidate. For ****s sake their front-runner Rand Paul wants racial discrimination to be legalized!

Nor would the GOP get the Latino vote.

Nor would the GOP get the female vote.

Nor the youth vote.

Nor the gay vote.

Not for a GENERATION. When you **** people over time and again, they tend to remember. Clean up your act and sure, some will forgive. More will forget. But MOST will do neither.

So I can see why the GOP is doubling down on their xenophobic white base. It's not a winning strategy either on a national level- not in the short term (and since when have Republicans thought long-term?). But it DOES elect incumbents in their impoverished red-states, so they're gonna keep right on shooting themselves in the foot.

I dunno what the end-game here is. But it's NOT a Republican presidency. Not for a long LONG time.

And it warms my innocent little heart when I think about how OLD justices Scalia and Kennedy are. Enjoy your Citizens United corruption while it lasts

This.

The Republican Party will be a local party in certain Southern states (like Oklahoma) for the foreseeable future. They don't have a chance at winning a national election. Why? It's simple. Their agenda of returning America to the good ole' 1950s doesn't sell anymore outside rural Southern congressional districts. This country has changed. They are completely out of touch with 70% of the American population.

You could not have picked a better spin cycle website... Think Progress, really! LOL

Ted Cruz garnered 56% of the hispanic vote in 2012 senate race in heavily hispanic populated Texas.
Tourists cannot vote in Texas.

Their message of bigotry and upward wealth redistribution appeals only to a shrinking demographic of socially conservative white people. There just aren't enough hateful white people any more to pull off a national election- and that minority is only getting smaller for Republicans. They CAN'T win nationally without significantly more support from women. Or minorities. Or young people.

Problem is that their angry white male demographic HATES all those groups. If Republicans behave decently toward women, black people, hispanics, gays, young people... old white men get PISSED and don't turn out to vote.

So they keep cutting education, discriminating against gays, and blaming the victim in any/all circumstances (bye-bye young people vote!)

Republicans fight against peoples' voting rights, endorse discrimination, and legislate PREDATORY police practices (bye-bye African American vote!)

Republicans have turned the Mexican border into a war zone, and put up walls to keep the eeeebil brown people out. These Good Christian Folks(TM) SCREAM at busses full of children, and deny (eeebil brown) people brought here as CHILDREN a chance at a decent education and/or legal employment. They blame every social ill they can find on eeeebil Mexicans- and yet won't lift a FINGER to prosecute employers who illegally hire them. Oh... and people don't vote for politicians who want to deport Papa. (bye-bye Latino vote!)

Republicans opposed protections against sexual harassment. The oppose giving women access to childcare. They oppose requiring employers to pay women equally. Republicans legislate unnecessary healthcare requirements onto women, require doctors to LIE to women, and do everything in their power to limit womens' access to healthcare that is their CONSTITUTIONAL RIGHT. And it ain't just abortion- Republicans oppose healthcare coverage for birth control. They're so tied to our christo-fascists that they can't even say in public that they support women having access to birth control! (but they're fine with Viagra). They even have SENATORS and the like repeatedly and explicitly bloviating on their total misunderstanding about how female biology works. (bye-bye female vote!)

So yeah, I don't see an easy solution for the Republicans. I'd love to see them behave like sane, decent human beings- but that will alienate their base. Or they can double-down on the pandering to their hateful, xenophobic white base, and alienate pretty much everybody else. It's a lose-lose situation. And I can't think of a better political party to see in this predicament

Great post! thanks

Delusional lies to sell a product. Didn't we just go through that with the DNC?

Sell it!

The ECONOMY will either help or wreck the Dems in 2016.

They don't need to present a compelling candidate in order to show up on Election Day. The Dems can do that for them just by nominating Hillary.

And that's the key. Catering to the moderates like they did in 08 and 12 didn't work. Republican moderates like Megan McCain insisted that they would turn out in droves and sweep Romney into the WH- any other 2012 candidate wasn't going to do it.

Instead, the GOP needs to change the electoral calculus and get a candidate who will motivate and educate voters in every region to promote change. Nominating a "me-too" candidate who is identical to the other party's offering is a sure trip to the political graveyard.
My gut feeling, the Republicans know this, they are doing their best to promote good candidates this time and I also believe they can get a decent share of the Latino vote.

To the OP:this isn't 2008 or 12 and there will not be a black candidate running in the general election this time. Obama brougt out minorities in numbers like never before.

The white vote percentage has declined in every presidential election since 1984, with the exception of 1992. Obama didn't start it, and his departure from the ballot won't stop it.
