She was raised with the understanding she was part Native American. What did she gain? I sympathize with this because my mother told me the same thing. We had DNA tests done and I told my mom I don't see it. She was positive, that her mother and grandmother told her, so we tested her. Still nothing. We tested other family members. Now she wonders if they were told that because of enhanced hunting rights a hundred years ago. But my mom was positive because she had been told that throughout her childhood. Elizabeth contributed to an Indian cookbook 30 years ago. Does that sound like someone trying to gain something?
Apparently a lot of people are brought up told something similar and then find out differently as adults. There's a long thread about this that started back in 2010 in the Genealogy forum at C-D:
Yes, because, you know, they had the same parents?! Their parents raised them telling them they had Native American heritage. So yes, her brothers. Shocking!!!
Who better to back her statement? The neighbors three doors down from where they grew up?
