Report: Presidential electors planning to undermine Electoral College

A number of Democratic Electoral College electors are planning to use their votes to undermine the election process in opposition to President-elect Donald Trump, Politico is reporting.

...
With at least six electors already vowing to become "faithless," the defection could be the most significant since 1808, when six Democratic-Republican electors refused to vote for James Madison, choosing vice presidential candidate George Clinton instead.

The electors acknowledge that it is unlikely that they will be able to block Trump from gaining office, Politico reported, but they are optimistic that their effort will raise enough questions about the Electoral College to reform or abolish it.

...
Twenty-nine states legally require their electors to obey the results of the popular vote in their state.

Why do we have electors that do not believe in the electoral process? They need to be replaced.

Harassment or Hail Mary? Electors feel besieged

"Hillary's got a great campaign going," said Sharon Geise, an elector from Mesa, Ariz., who estimates 8,000 emails have flooded her inbox. "It's the same thing, pretty much. Basically: Vote for Hillary Clinton. It's bizarre. I don't dare answer my phone."

A dozen letters urging her to back anybody but Trump arrived at her home Thursday.

"She has to stop all of this," Geise said of Clinton. "This is ridiculous."

It's not clear whether Clinton supports this movement. She conceded to Trump on the day after the election, and President Obama, a Democrat who endorsed his former secretary of state, has committed to a smooth transition of power.

OK - so according to her, Team Clinton is still quietly pushing things... I would not be surprised... they do have much to gain even of this works.

Just like harry Reid doing away with the filibuster it would backfire. What happens when they lose the popular vote, go back to electoral college?

Seriously? I would not put it past that corrupt HRC to behind the scenes threatening electors to vote for her. She would have the gall to walk into the WH after undermining the system. I am sure some of these electors are scared they will be suicided.. they better stay out of the gym.

She would need 38.

Six is remarkable, but is still a very very far cry from 38.

This will be interesting seeing how a majority of electors are republican.

As of today, Trump has 290 votes to Clinton's 232, with Michigan outstanding. Even if Clinton wins there – a possibility despite Trump's lead since election night – she still would trail, 290-248.

The six "faithless electors" are inconsequential, so they can go home to their sippy cups and their puppies.

FWIW, I would hate to be labeled a "faithless elector" if I was one. That is like being called a traitor, which they are in a manner of speaking. They are going against what their constituents voted for and they are lucky if they don't get tarred and feathered.

Isn't there 538 total... I thought Trump had 306. Did Michigan ever get done?

This NYT link states 100% reporting and Trump ahead by about 11,000: http://www.nytimes.com/elections/results/michigan. Perhaps it has not been called because it automatically triggered a recount?
