It's actually a little more basic than that.
Given any reasonable choice Al and MS will not elect Democrats. AL was not presented with a reasonable choice so they did what needed to be done. I expect Doug Jones will be a one term Senator but we gotta wait and see who runs against him. If Jeff Sessions runs against him he's a goner.

The rest of your racist blah-blah may earn a discussion if a black Republican ran against a white Democrat.

Hyde-Smith wasn't a very good candidate, but almost any Republican will win in Mississippi. The Dems ruled this state for 100 years so we have some experience with them; don't want them back.

Why State Legislatures Are Still Pretty White
That's not a statewide election. Only residents of the Mississippi 2nd district voted for him. MS-2 is 65% black. Get it now?

Yes, you live in a more-progressive enclave in a county where Moore got just over 40% of the vote. Of course, the county still voted for Trump by a wide margin, so I'm tempering my enthusiasm.

As for the 48.3% of the state that voted for Moore, "progressive" and "highly educated" are not terms that jump to mind when describing those folks. "Deplorable" fits much better.

No black candidates ran as Republicans in any of the 11 statewide elections. We don't generally elect Democrats, and in all the cases where the white Democrat won, the Republican was also white.

The Dems who ruled Mississippi for 100 years are all dead.
The Democrat Party sponsored The Great Society programs. Trying to convince people that those policies are actually modern day Republican policies is futile and silly. They were Democrat policies. They failed. The echos of their failure reverberate to this day.
Cindy Hyde-Smith will support Trump and that is why she won. It's pretty simple.

For Alabama’s electoral votes, absolutely. Trump’s approval rating is over 60% there. If he publicly lynched someone, he could probably push it to 70%.
