The real worry I have is of the almost cult like euphoria which is evident akin to a massive sugar high. When reality sinks in and Obama is reduced back to the status of a mortal then the disillusioned will be making excuses. I sincerely hope that Obama will have a successful tenure for the sake of the nation, but the bar has been set way too high and a good example is that so many are willing to overlook the sketchy aspects of some of his appointments in the belief that they possess the skills and abilities to set us on course. Only time will tell and folks need to get their feet back on the ground and out of the clouds. The one thing that Obama has at least placed some emphasis on is that we do need to look toward the future, so for all the BDS sufferers who just won't shut up and blame everything wrong with their lives on the soon to become former president, please get counseling or meds and get focused on the what needs to be done versus whatever has occurred. The one area where Obama needs to tread carefully is his stated objective to escalate the war in Afghanistan. There will be nothing worse for his presidency then getting more deeply involved in such a quagmire without the ability to dedicate the real number of forces and monies needed to reach a realistic objective. If we can get the economy back on track domestically then the mood of the nation will improve, if the economy continues to falter, the deficit continues to mushroom, and our military endeavors fail to meet lasting objectives, then hope and change will just become famous buzzwords of yet another failed attempt at regime change.

How did they do that again? Republicans had a lock on all branches of government four years ago. They could have rammed through whatever they damned well pleased.

Lightbulb Is anyone else worried about Obama?

I for one am very worried about the new President. I was never fooled by his resume or lack of qualifications for the office of President. I watched him stutter and stammer when asked questions that made him deviate from his prepared speeches. He promoted change and it is obvious he has no intention of changing. His complete and utter lack of experience scares me. His socialist ties and agendas will only help to promote the ruin of this country. And the worst part of it all is his obvious involvement in the corruption that is Illinois politics. Also, his wife could give Hillary a run for the dubious mantra of scariest first lady. I will give him credit for a good sense of humor and I think he knows how to have a modicum of bipartisanship. He also seems to have some energy too.

But overall, I am not seeing a qualified person of character who will be great for our country. I see a weak Jimmy Carter styled President who will potentially cause great harm. I honestly hope he proves me wrong.

Any else have worries they care to share?

Nope.

Obama doesn't worry me at all.

What worries me is the deeply divided legislative branch and the hardcore radicals in the public at large who will oppose his every effort because he's not one of them.

I think the govt. is planning a large power grab. They know Obama can sell it and there will probably never be a better time for them to do what they like with our rights. Obama supporters will just simply accept it.

No. The real reason is that the cupboard is bare. There's nothing else left to say. Eight years of disgrace and disaster. Crushed in two straight elections. Reduced to being a leaderless, rudderless regional party. What else for the few remaining faithful fo do but sit around muttering the same sorry saws that went straight down the crapper just two months ago. Ayers...ACORN...socialism...Wright...inexperience. ..says "um" too much. Six fizzles in six tries. The other guys must be a cult...yeah, that's it...

The perception is that the frustration and anger generated by the last eight years - and by extrapolation the Bush I years and the Ronald ("ketchup is a vegetable") Reagan years - the awful Gingrich-DeLay Congresses - the whole "permanent Republican majority" era - the possibility that that could be gone for good is a huge relief, and it certainly affords a certain "ding dong the witch is dead" celebratory feeling.

BDS - what a cute, lighthearted expression. Parents whose sons and daughters died in Iraq in 2003-4-5 who had gone there inspired by the WH's word that Saddam had al-Quaeda ties - ask them how they're managing their BDS.

"Cult-like euphoria," like "messiah," I think is only snarky RW media spin on something they resent. I dont know anyone who worships Obama or thinks he's Superman. The rest of your post is true, though.

Fundamentally it was ****. The government and various corporate interests just did what they could to prop up the house of cards for long enough to continue getting elected.

We'll see, the same thing happened after 9/11 and we seemed to accept that fairly easily, hopefully people will remember that and get angry. Just trying to point out it's not just "Obama supporters" that don't seem to mind additonal power granted to the government during a crisis.
