IMO, only Romney has a chance with all the voters at a national level, since the religious right is out of favor with the general electorate, and so are their sweethearts (Palin, Huckabee, Gingrich). Of course, Romney is out of favor with the religious right since he is a Mormon, even though the Mormons helped the religious right to gang up on California Prop 8 last year. Today's GOP is a mess befitting a byzantine soap opera.
Olympia Snowe?...hmmm...that wouldn't be too bad I guess...at least it's a step forward.

I'm hoping this mystery candidate will get 10-20% of the vote this time around. Definitely want another spoiler, and I don't care on what side they spoil.

I think so too, but she's too moderate for the far right as she's not radically anti-abortion, the single-issue litmus test of the far right.

I can't even imagine who will stand out enough to win an Presidential election. Certainly not a recycled name from the past....it will HAVE to be someone new. But I don't think there is time to publicly promote anyone. I suspect there will be another last minute entry play... ala Palin... who comes from nowhere and says the right things but leave little time for scrutiny. That way people can pin their hopes on the fantasy instead of having to face any ugly reality.

Are you kidding? At the rate the president's approval numbers are dropping, the cookie monster could win a victory in 2012.

It should be Chuck Hagel, Olympia Snowe, Susan Collins, Ron Paul, Lincoln Chafee, or anyone who is bringing back the Rockefeller Republican (what I am...what my Father was before switching to the Democratic party in 1992) ideal.

Paul Broun is NOT a Libertarian candidate, he's a bible-thumper, and by definition, a Libertarian cannot use their religion to leglislate morality. His most important moves in Congress have been to Proclaim 2010 as "The Year of the Bible" and to take Porn away from soldiers.

Maybe Joe Wilson will be barking, I mean campaigning?
Well there are still a few and 2012 is a long way away. Did anyone even know who Obama was in 2005?

As for Jendal I happen to think he is still too young, especially after our present leader has screwed things up. But the speech, though certainly not something to be proud of was 6 months ago. There is a long time between then and primary time.

After the 2010 election you will see lots of names, some good, some not so good surface.

BornRebel, Ron Paul will be way too old and past his prime.

As for a 3rd party the country isn't anywhere near ready for that.

NOw to all you democrats and the OP particularly, dream on, I am afraid your dream will soon be a nightmere.
You can dream all you want..

Actually, yes, quite a few people knew who he was in 2005:

As for nightmares, I cannot imagine anything worse than the one we finally woke up from on Jan. 20 of this year

I hope that the republicans do come up with at least one worthy candidate, as I still believe that this country needs more than one viable party. Not holding my breath though.
