So I'm looking at videos of Kiev burning and 19 are dead so far, and there seems to be some very serious turmoil going on there. Backlash against political leaders siding with Putin over the EU and probably many other things that run deeper than the headlines are showing. Citizens in the streets of Kiev seem desperate at the point that they feel they have nothing left to loose after having protesting rights lost, and perhaps a much tighter grip with what seems to be heading towards totalitarian ways. All the while, turn the corner and the Sochi Olympic games are currently on the world stage. The Ukraine has a whole new generation of post Soviet/iron curtain college age kids growing into adulthood. What direction is the Ukraine heading in?

It does not look good! I saw the same news footage.

The nation seems very divided. The key issue seems to be which way the Ukraine should align itself. Should it favor Russia or a Western influence (USA).

Unfortunately for the Ukraine, the reports are that the people are pretty evenly split in their opinions on this key issue.

We can only hope that some real leadership emerges that will calm the violence and find a real solution.

Putin wont let them side with western influences. He'll deprive them of oil.

It's hard to believe but their GDP per capita is even lower than that of Iran, which is sanctioned by the west.

And so it goes with the 'Cold War' which has never ended. Only difference this time is that two apparanetly extremely 'close' , in more ways than one, countries are now in a bitter battle as to how the future of their relationship. Before the war was against the evil 'West' now it's in their own backyard. Has to be worse since the former relationship was pretty tight. When we watch tv now with the pictures off on events in the Ukraine it's like a 'Fourth of July' celebration. When you put the pictures on, it's more like divisive scores are being settled.

I advise that the Ukrainian people to stand up against that revolutionThis is the same game played by America and Europe in my country (egypt) and Syria and Libya
usa and eu don't care about ukrainian They just want to isolate and destroy Russia so they trying use ukrain
This is the same scenario in egypt and syria and lybia
They use their media to persuade the Ukrainian people with lies
At the same time, use the traitors and spies to burn Ukraine

usa and eu using Fourth generation warfare (Destroyed yourself by yourself) (search on you tube)
Ukrainians must revolt against the traitors and spies of America and the European Union
Until now they are trying to support the Muslim Brotherhood in Egypt and Syria
But good thing is that the Egyptian people discovered the plot and still erupts against traitors in goverments and streets
Ukrainian people must remain one hand against the plots of America and Europe like egyptians Or ukraine will become, like Syria and Libya in the end

True that. Iraq was invaded because Saddam threatened to quit trading oil in dollars. Same thing with Syria, Libya, etc. It's funny that fellow Americans actually believe this is all about "spreading freedom and democracy". Anyone who refuses to play ball with America, the IMF, the world bank, is swiftly dealt with.

Also, Kazakhstan, a landlocked country with population 1/3 of Ukraine, has surpassed Ukraine in recent years to become the 2nd largest economy of the post-Soviet states (after Russia of course).

But Kazakhstan has gas/oil industry built by Russians in Soviet times.
Ukraine - doesn't.
That's what makes the whole difference.
