Actually, no, we just can't physically maintain a good level without importing
. How do you imagine a technological race against the world in all industries? Against a couple of billion people.
There are far fewer than a billion of us..It's just physically impossible. There are countries where mechanical engineering is much ahead, someone has electronics, someone is better in precision mechanics.
We are already making very good progress in the field of high technology, and this process is accelerating. No country has such a complex set of sophisticated technologies and competencies. Competitors of the United States and the European Union, and the European Union, only as a community of states, separately, they do not pull.
So without importing high-tech and high-performance equipment. the best elements in radio electronics ,it will be very difficult for us.
It is not for nothing that our "Western friends" are trying their best to cut us off from technology, prevent us from acquiring it, and so on.
All I said is that Russia does not need to import capital....physical goods trade is good and Russia should welcome trade with anyone and the world is not only the west.
However, we painfully learned that "free trade" does not exist and some countries try to suffocate others with sanctions and the like. It is paramount to have domestic capabilities in high tech, aerospace, etc...
The European Union made sure to be independent when it came to vital technologies.
The Asia "world island" has enough population and technological capabilities to resist outside pressure.

yandex translator, considered that the import is in principle, and not just capital )
Capital yes, this is the case, you need to be careful with it.Many were burned out, on supposedly cheap Western loans.
Trade and property rights are the paths to prosperity. That includes imports and not just exports.
Bizarrely Putin sanctioned Russians from food imports. This benefits Russian food producers but not consumers (everyone).
Sanctions aren't good for an economy and that is the point. Continue fighting Ukraine in Donbas and keep the sanctions going. Putin's choice.
Sanctioning of food imports was one of the best thing Putin did to jolt the local industry...Russia needed to be weaned from relying too much on imports and exporting natural resources. It's called national security.

Absolutely....Russia and Russian companies should never ever again borrow money in a different currency. Want to invest in Russia?? Use rubles.

Tell that to certain people in Russia, that prefer to keep their capital ( and family members) overseas.
That's the fifth column all right, with the most fitting definition.

Putin made a wrong choice as I've already said. He should have brought the troops in, and take over so-called *Ukrainian territories* - Kharkov, Kherson Zaporozhie and Nikolaev regions ( not just Donbass,) at the same time when he took over Crimea.
He didn't do it, so big mistake.
If to follow your logic DKM - there is one center of the world already, that pulls the financial strings around the world. And everyone should better comply with that *center* and what it demands in return, or else.
Even ( or rather first of all) when the demands of this *center* go directly against the national interests of those it's trying to control financially.
Not everyone wants to live their lives on their knees DKM in front of the foreign power.
Even when that power dangles the proverbial carrot in front of them.
Of course "wants" and "cans" are not one and the same thing.
For example Ukraine might *want* whatever it likes, but it doesn't have the abilities to fulfill those "wants."
Russia however HAS this ability, and thus it can kick away this proverbial dangling carrot, that you find so irresistible for whatever reason.
So Saturno keeps on pointing at all the right things, following what's only logical.
You on another hand base your logic on the false premises, and that's why you arrive to the wrong conclusions.

Yeah it was great for the producers. Not great for the consumer. Easy for us to say when its not our problem sitting here in the land of the free.
My friend brought some "banned" food product to his girlfriend in Russia recently. I believe it was a kind of cheese from Italy. It's like going back to the old days. Soon I'll be able to sell my Levis in Moscow for $200 a pair...

He would if he could, but he can't do it. Fake world: Russia can come in and take the half of Ukraine that speaks Russian and it would be bloodless like Crimea. Reality: it would be a nasty fight and lots would die on both sides. He will not go down this path to appease people like you.

The demand of the west is to not attack other countries with military force to prevent those other countries from aligning with the west.

Speaking of Ukrainian wants, they can get Italian cheese at the store if they so choose. They can travel to Italy and Spain without permission (pre/after covid). Those are not so important to everyone but Russians cannot do these things unless they are rich and get permission. They can study in European universities and mingle with a high number of tourists in the summer (pre/after covid). They suffer from the same kind of economic mismanagement as Russia but they can implement reforms without the great leader pushing back. The oligarchs in Ukraine don't have a president working to preserve their position anymore. A year from now things will look quite different I can guarantee you that.

No, it wouldn't be a fight. There would be casualties that's for sure and those deaths would mostly be the thugs that now rule Ukraine. The better part of the population would rip them to pieces and a lot of them would be killed doing it no doubt. They would die in the end though, they couldn't run and they couldn't hide.
You are correct though. There would be a lot of people killed, civilians. That's the main reason Russia hasn't went in yet.
