The only European country with large global popular modern culture, is the UK.
All of the countries in Europe export their culture globally. The UK is the largest but countries that were major colonial powers like France, Spain and Portugal have significant global cultural impacts within their respective language zones (former colonies). Within these areas their influences are bigger than the UK's by a longshot.
Almost all world famous European musicians and bands are British.
Almost all world famous European movies are British.
Almost all world famous European video games are British.
Almost all world famous European novels and theatre is British.
Nearly all of the modern cultural awards like the oscars, Grammies etc are dominated by UK and USA.
European countries can't compete with British global movie giants like
Harry potter,
James Bond,
lord of the rings
Gravity
Slumdog millionaire
28 days later
Riddick
12 years a slave
Narnia
Borat
Etc etc. etc, the list is too long to write, Europe cant even dream of having such big and global cultural success that Britain has.
Europe doesn't have anything that can match british video games like
, grand theft auto, tomb raider, banksy.
British television shows are shown right around the world, shows like
Dr who
The office
Who wants to be a millionaire
Top gear
American idol (British idol)
Americas got talent (britains got talent)
The X factor
Being human
Gladiators
Dancing with the stars
Hell's Kitchen
Skins
Spaced
Deal or no deal
The weakest link
Shameless.
Many American television shows were bought from Britain.
Britain has so many massive global musicians, bands, dj's etc that the whole of Europe combined wouldn't even match ten percent of Britain's global music influence, so I won't embarrass you by comparing modern British music with European lol
People from all countries around the world watch British and American movies and television and listen to British and American music and play British and American video games. Europe has nothing like that and can't even try to march the cultural influence that Britain and America have.
the world's people get their news from British and American stations, like the BBC world service, the most watched channel on earth.
The world does not know or care about European popular culture, because european popular culture is almost non existent compared to British and American modern culture.
The BBC alone is the biggest media conglomerate in the world. Britain and America are considered the two biggest soft power (cultural influence) nations in the world, Europe is insignificant in these fields

Really. Lol. You see just as much anglo British/American culture there as anywhere else in the world. They all know British and American bands and movies, none of them know or care about French bands or movies lol, even the tiny francophone is dominated by anglo modern culture

The only area where Britain might stand out a bit more is in older rock music (Led Zeppelin, Rolling Stones, Beatles) but aside from that looking at me, my kids, my friends and theirs the UK is not in a leading cultural position here.
Really, so why are all the biggest selling artists, with the biggest profile and platinum selling albums British and American.
The sell out stadium concerts are nearly all British and American.
The richest stars are all British and American.
The most famous and popular in the media are British and American.
The most followed by the media and social networks all from Britain and America.
The biggest global awards are won by Brits and Americans.
France simply has nothing even close, even you know that lol.
If you have to suffer from the awful amateur French attempt at modern culture then I am sorry for your pain, I really am, but look around, even inquebec you are surrounded by anglo culture, France has no modern culture worth viewing, but luckily for you, you live in an anglo culture world so can fill up on the best modern culture on earth

Obi, you keep saying "British and American" when you should just be saying 'American'. You seem to have delusions of British grandeur. It is 2014 not 1814. British cultural influence is miniscule compared to American cultural influence. The French are arguably more culturally influential than the British.

Have you ever been off that island of yours?
The most popular music artist where I live is this person:
In this part of the world, she sells more albums, more concert tickets, has longer queues for autographs, will draw more hits on the Internet, than any other artist from anywhere in the world.

Just because you're ignorant about it doesn't mean that it doesn't exist. That's quite normal for the UK and America, though, you don't even bother to get aquainted with anything outside your natural cultural sphere, and so you think nobody else produces anything.
You know, I've seen some terrific French, Spanish and Finnish movies. Yes, they really do exist. One of the best war movies I've seen was actually Chinese.

What global awards? The Oscars, Emmys and other which doesn't even accept any but English-speaking nominations?
The last English movie I watched was the King's Speech, and when did it come out? 2011?
One Derrick, Der Alte or Serrano family will wipe the floor with Top Gear and Hell's Kitchen. But not Christie's Poirot, though.
