Truth to be told - Asia is Russia's colony; it's just Russians treat their colonial lands ( and their population) differently than the rest of Europeans.
Most academics consider the Caucasus mountains as the natural boundary rather than the Kuma–Manych Depression. As a side note over land colonies are easier to intergrate into the home country as opposed to over sea colonies. For instance the western U.S. Is a colony of the U.S. That is fully integrated as well as western Canada is to the rest of Canada and western China is a colony of China.
With the economic engine of China to the East, I think the border between Europe and Russia will become less and less important. I assume 50 years from now Russia will totally focus on and integrate with Asia.
And what about Albania, is that Europe or Asia? And how is Ukraine any more European than Russia, considering that the majority of the people in Luhansk are Russian or at the very least speak Russian as their mother tongue. If Russia is its own thing, then by default Ukraine is in it as well.

It would be interesting to see the ethnic composition of the areas where the population growth is largest in Russian Federation.
As far as Westernmost parts of Russia and its dwindling population - it's ethnic Russians running from the country the way I see it.
Erasure that map only shows natural growth (births minus deaths) and doesn't account for immigrants. Also the western parts are red because of high mortality rate and low birth rate. But even then the population of Russia has been growing since 2009 and even though non Russians have higher birth rates, they don't account to much for the growth of Russia considering 80% of the country is ethnic Russian. Also half of immigrants are ethnic Russians returning from other post soviet states. And there are more people interning Russia than leaving. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Demographics_of_Russia
