Fitness is not feminine. Playing sports is not feminine. Martial arts is not feminine. You wont change my mind. Muscles just do not look feminine to me. Sorry if you don't like my opinion, I don't like any of yours either.
Also they don't need me to approve of anything. Yet people criticize me from left and right. What about my feelings? That's right no one cares because I am fat and I smell...
I hate to sound like I'm beating up on you. But why on earth do you believe playing sports is not feminine? I think you say that to justify your one status as a non-sports female. Figure skaters are great athletes, with very strong legs, outstanding coordination, and fitness. I hate the sport, but these women are great athletes. There are many beautiful elite athletes out there - tennis players, golfers, swimmers, divers, etc.
My high school daughter has done some kind of sport since she was 8 years old. She knows how good it makes her feel, how strong she is, and she knows she is prepared to deal with almost any physical challenge she is likely to face. She also looks great in any clothes she chooses, and it looks now like her sport will earn her a scholarship. I think if you asked her - she could not imagine not being fit.
Please do not bother to argue with these people jerseygal. If they think being a meat head body lifter is attractive then so be it. Remember that this is the exercise forum. it is not about health it is about looks. These people don't realize that you can still have an unattractive face but still be fit. Personally I like my chubby cheeks they make me look cuter and have a friendly face. I also have dimples which brings up the cute factor, since dimples are cute all on their own.
These people will just never understand that you can be overweight and be happy with yourself and make healthy choices. Like I said before I just wish my tummy was a bit flatter. Some people just don't want to be stick thin or a muscle woman. I don't need an exercise junkie who is conceited, horridly skinny models, or Hollywood to tell me that I am beautiful.
As long as you are healthy, but I don't know very many truly happy people who are 40-50 pounds overweight.
Furthermore, just because one works out does not mean that they are a meat head, masculine, unattractive, stick thin, anorexic, a muscle woman, conceited or horridly skinny.
I don't work out to look good, I work out as a stress release and because it feels good. If that's conceited, then call me conceited. If I'm a skinny ******, then so be it. I would rather be considered those things than be what I was 5 years ago (100 pounds overweight, miserable and very unhealthy).
Obese,or rubenesque, women were "in" a century ago.
Then slim was in,then curvy, now fit. Idk why that's hard for you to believe.
With more fashion designers and magazines featuring overweight women,it might turn being overweight as the "in thing.
I don't care what the "in" thing is. If you are not healthy, then what is the point?
Agreed. And I had already concluded that her feelings are basically sour grapes

I think women who are muscular look less feminine. It's not jealousy. I would never want to look like that. Ever. It's off putting to me. Sure, being fit and toned is one thing. Looking jacked is quite another.

I don't think weight lifters (men OR women) are all that attractive, but I would also probably leave my husband if he became obese. I'm watching my dad die from weight-related ailments. All he had to do was check his blood sugar and exercise regularly, he took the path of most resistance, and now he is slowly dying. This is what I see when I see people, who "accept" their weight. He accepted his weight right into an amputated foot and an early grave.
...and keep telling themselves that fat is okay or even good. Social status in history and in some obese countries today are the ONLY places where that would be good.
It mainly comes down to health, as some posters have recognized. My husband was scolded by his doctor going into surgery because of the added real risks you choose to put yourself in when you go under the knife obesely. (I know--I've worked in the surgical suites.) He lost a whole person (like 150 lbs.) and struggles to this day since we both LOVE to eat with that nagging 20-25 that you lose and gain.
I've found myself this year at 40...yes, 40...lbs. overweight and it shows in everything I do...less energy...those loose fitting comfy clothes...just not feelin' like my pretty perky self...and know that it is only a matter of time if I don't lose that 40, that my health will begin to suffer tremendously. I've started my cardio and healthier eating. Will progress to light weights and toning exercises after I drop 15, as this is what works for me...will make me feel good, look good and be healthy.
Don't fool yourselves with those 'chubby cheeks' comments --get fit and benefit. I exercise at home as I'm not into public profuse sweating and having to wonder what bacterially contagious infection lurks on the next machine from someone.
Sculpted is absolutely handsome and beautiful (love my hubby's V-shape...you know what I mean, girls ) even on women but in my eyes, just not over-the-top body building sculpted but then again, beauty is simply in the eye of the beholder...good health is not disputable. End of story.

What is feminine then? Laying around, talking on the phone, eating and being flabby and inactive?

You don't HAVE to be fat. Please stop the pity party. And this is coming from a fat person - a fat person whom women like to hug because I smell great.
So to you people it isn't about health. Finally, some admitted it. So,to those of you who do it for looks, what would happen if obesity or overweight becomes the "in" thing to be?
Preferred body types come and go(I'm talking about Hollywood and fashion standards).

Sports are male dominated. Mostly men watch sports and they more frequently participate in them. Feminine hobbies are doing hair, sewing, cooking etc not tackling others, climbing trees, or rolling around in mud. If you want a feminine sport try cheerleading or figure skating though I dont really consider those true sports.
