I used to wear AE clothes in my 20's up into my early 30's. I found they suited my personal style and they were of above average quality (which is paramount to me when paying for clothes). I couldn't comment on the quality clothes now as I haven't set foot into one of their stores in years. However, the one time I had one of their shirts fall apart on my after only 2 washings, they took it back sans receipt while profusely explaining that "this never happens, ever!" That kind of customer service goes a long way with me. To date, I still have a couple AE shirts and sweaters in my closet that are still in great shape.

As for the ridiculous comments that the AE brand is "only for high school students"... All I can say is I am 6'8" and weigh 260 lbs. Any shirt or sweater I would buy from a clothing store is going to look like a tent draped over your typical teenager. They make clothes for both teenagers and adults, however their marketing is mainly geared toward the 16-24 year old crowd.

Out of the 3, A&F has the best quality for sure. Still expensive for basics though.

I don't know what AE is like now, as I haven't been in one for a couple of years, but they used to always sell clothes that were very similar to A&F but relatively cheaper in price. I think nowadays that might be different. There were a few gems in AE though.

Don't think A&F were as popular as before, but stores are still around. Look at their stock price now, compared to a few years ago.

I'd still wear American Eagle because it's not too much. I still have a few good pieces from my middle school/high school days (I'm 20 now).

I like my stuff from Ann Taylor, Banana Republic, White House Black Market, Piperlime, Gap, The Limited, Soma Intimates, Venus, and Under Armour. I also like boutiques.

I never wore A&F. You had to have nice muscle definition to wear their tight shirts if you were a guy. The same size at AE fit me much better. I still wear AE at times. Mainly because there's one near me and my sister buys me gifts there. I can get good deals on shorts and shirts out of season. I never pay full price. I also don't go shopping much at all so there's that. I never got the shirts or jackets with huge logos or lettering on them, I like low key and not flashy which is a good thing about the shorts and pants. It's not so much that AE is a favorite store, it's just that it works for me and I really don't care that much. I wear stuff till it doesn't fit or has huge holes in it. Other than Old Navy I wouldn't really know where else to shop except general department stores which is more of my 58 year old dad's liking.

Is it still popular for tweens/teens? Do you ever see adults wearing the brands now? It seems like another one of those brands that are fading away...
Nearly every high schooler in our district has at least a few items in the closet from those retailers. So, yes, I'd say they're still popular.

Well, if no one wore those clothes, the stores would cease to exist.
Soooooo...... apparently someone is wearing them!
Well, they are. Closing, that is. At least the A&F and Hollister in the mall in Scranton, PA. I believe today, (or tomorrow) is the last day. Not even making it to the end of the year.

In all fairness, almost everything in the Steamtown Mall has closed. Sad but the tax situation in the city has a lot to do with businesses moving out.

Yeah... Scranton is in a skid. You can't base the viability of a brand by its existence or absence in Scranton.

A&F is in extreme financial straights and is expected to file for reorganization sometime early next year. Wall Street is not betting on them surviving.

In South Florida, the only people I see wearing A&F are foreigners.

Same I had noticed for Bebe, VS Pink, and Juicy Couture(which is almost nonexistent these days/closed down). People would forgo quality to get a shirt that had a popular brand's logo on it. That seems to have become the very thing that has taken some of these companies down funnily enough, but is sounds like a few of them are still popular among certain demographics.
Juicy Couture is in bankruptcy.
