Why do some women do it? Thankfully my lady friend doesn't wear perfume at all but I have been on dates with and even dated women that pound on the perfume like crazy. I remember one woman I dated would put a ton on and it bothered me but I didn't say anything until I realized when she'd wear it and we went out to eat it would actually make me sick to my stomach while eating. She seemed a bit miffed about it and stopped wearing it all together. I have an aunt that's much the same way, I don't see her that often but the times as a family we get together to eat she wears perfume that literally makes me feel sick when we eat.

In your aunt's defense, a lot of older women wear too much because their sense of smell has gotten worse with age.

Can't explain young women's excuses.

On the rare occasion I wear perfume, I spritz once in the air and walk through it.

Some people will brag about how expensive their perfume is.

I do not understand it either. Used to work at a company around a lot of women and it smelled like they took a bath in the cheapest perfume out there.

Some of it is the idea of being "noseblind." If you are around a smell often your brain stops registering it. Women who wear the same perfume everyday may think that they have to wear more in order to smell it, but it's only they who can't smell it. Everyone else smells it just fine.

Cheap perfume always gets me, especially when I'm caught in an elevator with one.

Good point. Like their wild make-up.

I do the same, just walk through it, if I ever wear it....

Some of the Toronto area hospitals have a NO Perfume policy for patients, visitors and staff. And they enforce it vigorously.

Here is the link to Women's College Hospital website about their no scent rule.

IVe tried to get names on a petition in Scotland to stop all perfumes , after shave etc in hospitals... I have MCS and I really get sick with even a slight whiff of the stuff... so I dont socialize much or go into shops much either as they seem to be bombared now with scented candles etc and people wearing perfumes.... I end up sick and feeling disorientated and dizzy, and after exposure it doesnt go away once out of range.. it can leave me sick for over a week... I was in hospital a few years ago and when asked before an operation if I had any allergies I said yes All perfumed products and cleaners etc... I left out all the rest like the air fresheners, diesel, petrol etc.... I got a blank look from the nurse...........OH you break out in a rash if you wear it.............Ans...NO it has nothing to do with me wearing it, its to do with you hanging over me wearing it and asking me questions... she asked it this had a name and I told her MCS Multiple Chemical Senstivity.. she shook her head.....Never heard of it sorry....
