I'm short and busty, so no, not even when I've had short hair. But I had a friend years ago who used to be mistaken for a girl based on his name (not in person). He used to get invitations to compete in Miss Teen pageants for his state, and was accidentally assigned to the girls' gym class a few times in school. Both his first and middle name were unisex names that had become mostly girls' names by his teens.
I'm a woman who sports an androgynous/butch haircut. It's not just short. it's SHORT. I have a "fade". I have been mistaken for male from behind when I was heavier, believe it or not. Maybe because I wore all the wrong clothes. Nowadays, everyone addresses me as a woman. Though when I visited a small Texas town, this guy did question my sexuality. Girl with boy cut and all
To be honest, I like androgynous haircuts. Grace Jones is one of my idols.
I have long curly hair and biggish boobs. But I wear aviators, boots, t-shirts and jeans mostly, and often my hair is back in a tight bun if it's a windy or hot day. Occasionally older people seeing me out of the corner of their eyes have thought that I was a dude. Whatever - not a big deal, even though they act like they've made some sort of horrible mistake.
hahaha ,,, when one of my grandaughters was about four.. she was sorting my hair which was shortish at the time .. and she asked, Gran are you a man or a woman... I squinted quickly into the mirror in case I was growing a moustache then asked her in a half hearted way......And how did you come to that conclusion ......She said ...Well gran your hair grows up and not down... confidence shattered the full day.
In March 1981, on a warmish night a male friend from high school and I were walking from the North End of Boston towards Beacon Street and St. Mary's. We were on the Boylston Street side of the Commons. We heard a bunch of people yelling from behind us "are you people men or women"? Before getting to answer that profound question, the beer bottles were flying. The one aimed at me grazed my hair. My friend wasn't so lucky. He spent the night at Beth Israel Hospital's emergency room.
