Exactly!! People in FL stay inside a LOT!! That is like a winter up north, except there is no snow. People are inside the whole freakin' time.... try getting someone to do anything during the 9-month summer.
(((Okay....9 month summer? You're kidding, right? I lived in Orlando for 2 years and I SO saw SCORES of people out in the summer! Don't believe me? Take a stroll to Magic Kingdom @ 2PM in July! You'll be lucky if you can get inside the park...Let alone get on a ride once you're in there!)))

No one wnats to leave the A/C homes and cars. It is a pain getting groceries.
(((Horsefeathers! I spent countless hours just sitting by the lake with the wife and the dog watching the exotic birds and baby gators! People fishing, boating, sun bathing, etc.)))

Not to mention, you go ANYWHERE, ANYTIME during the 9-month summer, you feel sluggish and tired in 5 mins. I used to run cross-country and in the 3-month winter, I could run a 2-mile and only have some heavy breathing. In the 9-month summer, I can BARELY do a 1/2 mile and I am about to pass out!!
(((Sluggish in 5 minutes? Uhm...How old ARE you, ANYway?! I am WAY more energized when it's hot! I go to the gym right at 5 AM! Here in Mass, in winter, the gym is like a freakin ice box! I can barely throw up 250 on the bench, even after a warm up! But, when it's hot....335 like whoa! There are a lot of hot girls in Boston. Problem is, ya don't see them until the 2nd or 3rd week of June. And when you DO see them, they're usually wrapped up like cocoons, trying to stay warm! So you can't tell, for the most part, if they're hot bodies, or the big flab-a-lanche! 90 plus temps??? Well, I hate to sound like a cheesy movie.....But, bring it on!)))

Answer: Like I said in another thread, it would be nice if we could all pick up and move our entire lives because we hate the weather or the place we live..... Many times jobs pick us and you get into a place that you can't get out of without taking a massive financial slap.....

So suppose Nirvana works in a sheet-metal plant (I dont' think he does, but just as an example.). He's worked there for 10 years, has some seniority and is a ways up the payscale. Let's also say he's married with two small children. Now what sense does it make to up and move, lose the seniority and take a paycut with a family to support, no matter how much you may dislike where you are living???

It doesn't.

So please would people stop pretending like it's so easy. It took me five years of planning and plotting to move on with minimal financial ramifications, so I'm not saying it's impossible, but to make it sound so simple isn't fair....
If I understand what you are saying then the person has accepted a trade off in their life that benefits them, so they should stop complaining. All you are describing are excuses and looking for someone to blame. No one says it is easy but complaining adds nothing especially about something as stupid as the weather. He's not moving by the way, because he can't sell his condo.

These threads are always good for a laugh.

Maybe the question should be rephrased do you enjoy the Illinois 6-month winter?

Yes I enjoy 9 months of summer and if you sweat and don't enjoy walking around in 90 degree heat with humidity thats bad for you.

In August you can go rollerblading, biking, play baseball, basketball, soccer, go swimming -- all kind of outdoor sports if you want to.

Here in Chicagoland its a chore to go from late November to mid April. Granted I've played soccer in March when it was like 30 degrees out but still you don't get to really enjoy the outdoors.

If you don't like it move. Many people want to move to Florida for the weather and would be glad to trade for some greenery and having to put on the A/C for a while. The winter way up north gets really damn depressing -- dead leave deciduous trees - I agree with the poster about Boston, you are pretty much confined to the indoors for that period of time. You can go skiing which is very fun if you have $$ and a car. If not there isn't much to do on the weekend. Yeah well I guess skate and play hockey. Bah I never liked the cold.

Why would people want to stay inside?
Florida indoors is often brutally cold.
Wearing sandals I almost lost a few toes to frost bite there.

Seriously though I love being outside when it's 90 F, even with 80% humidity and doing manual labor in the hot sunshine; it's still easier to deal with than 40 F weather.

Feel sluggish in 5 minutes? Impossible! (for me at least )
I go into a sauna hot enough I have to leave my watch off or it will burn me and it takes over 10 minutes just to break a sweat and maybe 15-20 minutes to feel sluggish and that's like what, 120-160 F?

I've spent a few winters in Chicagoland and thanks for reminding me why I now live in Florida. Here's a few memories that you've jarred loose... days when it got down to 20 below, holding onto my car door for support so I wouldn't slip on the ice while the wind whipped me around like a rag doll, frozen snot, static electricity, dry itchy skin, my back thrown out from shoveling, drinking Theraflu like it was a cocktail, slush laden gutters, ice dams, I always seemed to have only one glove - the other one usually showed up in the spring when the snow melted, wearing boots, scarves, earmuffs, down parkas... YIKES!!! Not to mention I experienced my first 106 degree summer day in Chicago! I haven't seen anything over 93 in Florida yet.

My heart is in the NE but we are here & that is that...so we are making the best of it.

BUT, I TELL ANYONE W/ CHILDREN...there is NOTHING like being able to take your child outside WITHOUT putting on mittens, coats, boots, etc & just being able to go out in a sweatshirt & run around in mild temps in winter & just have them be able to play OUTSIDE in fresh air pretty much year-round.

TOday, we headed out around 10am & found yet another park (there are a lot of good little parks for young ones where we are) & my son had a blast for 20 mins just running & going down the slide.

It's great b/c in warmer temps it is almost a guarantee you can go outside w/ your children.

We have to stay inside from about noon-6pm, but that's ok..we go out at night for beautiful sunsets & walks here in FL

Do you see any difference in how often the kids are sick? I know people we know up north when ever you call in the winter someone is always sick especially the kids. If my wife go up for a visit she always come back having gotten sick from someone up there.
