We cook our meals from scratch as much as time permits, including making our own beef, chicken, shrimp, and veggie broths for the freezer. However there are times when a jar of pasta sauce from the store with pasta and protein of choice is necessary due to time or just plain being tired.

I've NEVER been a fan of store bought sauces, but around 5 years ago tried DeLallo and that was it! We moved to an area 2.5 years ago where none of the stores we tried in a 1.5 hour drive carried it. MIL would kindly bring a couple jars when she came to visit.

Yes, it's expensive but we don't use it that often. Just great to have something truly tasty and quick when you want it.

Anyone have any other suggestions since I'm not going to go out and just buy and eat without a tip?

(Pressure cooker is the next step so I can have my own canned.)

This came up because a store off island (about 25 minutes drive one way) just started carrying it but only has 3 of the many flavors they make.

If we use jarred, we usually get ones made by local Italian restaurants that market their sauce to area supermarkets. If that's not available, I usually get Newman's Own and add my own herbs.

I've always liked the Ragu Tomato, onion, and garlic. Most other store sauces are too salty to me.

I like Classico. I use it as a base and then add to it.

I use the Ragu Tomato onion and garlic as a base and throw in chopped peppers onions and mushrooms. Still only takes a few minutes and adds a real nice flavor. If I want meat I will throw in a blend of Neese sausage and ground beef.

Paul Newman's, I prefer the Tomato and Basil blend, although there are several others.

Default Prego...

I prefer Prego 'chunky'...It's a good solid base. I doctor it up so much it really doesn't matter past that point. Always keep a good batch of it in the freezer so I can take it any which way I want once it's defrosted.
