FTW, while it is too late to correct my typo in my initial post, I want to clarify that I meant "staples in German dishes." I did not mean to insinuate that there were actually any horses in German dishes.

Here are pretty much the only german foods I have had:
krautsalat: German Warm Cabbage Salad Krautsalat) Recipe - Food.com - 107800 (incidentally, this is how my mom makes cabbage, and I'm black. )
gurkensalat: German Cucumber Salad (Gurkensalat) - A Couple Cooks
German Potato Salad: German Potato Salad Recipe : Bobby Flay : Food Network
German Pancakes: german pancakes | smitten kitchen

Good luck!

Oh yeh, I forgot about the hot/warm potato salad grand & ma made.
I didn't like it.
It was made with oil & apple cider vinegar, grated onion and the skins were left on.

Haha, yeah, I remember being completely unhappy because there were no eggs and mayonnaise in my potato salad at my other gram's house.

The creamy cucumber salad in your link is a family tradition in my husbands family, while the vinegar based cucumber salad that someone else posted is a staple in my family.

I looked at that cuc salad. Not familiar to me.
What I thought was german cucumber salad because it came from grand & ma, I still make & love is with red wine vinegar, oil & mayo, salt & black pepper. No onions or sugar.
And better the next day, & with a hunk of bread dipped in the dressing. Yum!

The creamy salad is a northern/eastern German dish, the one with the vinegar and sugar is a Bavarian thing.
Yours sounds good, too!
