eevee, I don't know if you're still in the same neighborhood, but that new breakfast joint at North and Kedzie, Grandma J's, serves a tasty version of it (Chicken and Waffle fritters). Worth checking out if you still live near the park!
I've seen that place, walked by it a couple of days ago. Thanks for the tip, will have to check it out to see how it stacks up against Roscoe's and the place in Bronzeville. Hopefully they'll also have some good, Southern style sides like greens.
wow... having grown here in LA, i thought chicken and waffles (a la Roscoe's) was a Southern tradition that was transplanted to California. But i guess it's home grown like the inside-out sushi roll.
I live in the DEEP South and I don't know anyone that eats waffles with chicken. If it were really popular the Waffle House would have it on the menu.

I don't think they'd have the southern greens unless they were featured as part of a special. They're catering to a hipster crowd (Like a little fancier version of Flying Saucer) It's not even chicken and waffles per se, but chicken and waffle fritters (which are still quite delicious)
Anyhow, I liked it a lot. Would be interested in your take if you end up trying them! One last heads up: At this point, Grandma J's is still cash only.

When I get chicken and waffles in restaurants in Lancaster County PA, it's more like chicken a la king: Shredded tender white-meat chicken in a creamy chicken gravy, served OVER homemade waffles. No syrup, no butter.
Use some dark meat chicken, add a little butter, and that sounds incredible; not smart, but incredible.
There's a place specializing in it, but the whole thing puzzles me.
Is it breakfast food? Or lunch?
Does the chicken go on top of the waffles? If so, how to you cut it? Is it even knife-and-fork?
Or are the waffles eaten as the equivalent of toast?
Do you use syrup?
What's the point, really? I mean, we don't routinely eat chicken with cinnamon rolls or French toast.
