How good it looks or tastes when you defrost it is another matter. Pasta gets mushy when you defrost it. Chicken to me has an off taste if it's been cooked and frozen.
I don't find that pasta gets mushy at all. I regularly cook a large portion of Basmati rice, pack it into smaller portions and freeze it, likewise rotini pasta and egg noodles. No difference in texture when it's defrosted (but it IS frozen plain without any sauce.) I freeze pretty much everything, including breads and pastries but NOT anything with cream in it as the cream separates on defrosting.
What Kinds Of Foods Do You Like To Freeze For Convenience?
I just finished freezing a lot of foods last week--spanish rice and pasta e fagiole, in particular. It's much more economical, and I like the idea of simply being able to save certain food items until DH and I want them. Also, I split up a big bag of frozen ravioli into individual portions. Not that I couldn't eat an entire pound, you understand....
White rice
Homemade stock
Roasted, peeled green chiles
Roasted, peeled red peppers
When I make chile or lasagne, I usually make way more than I need to freeze in single servings
Tortellini, with or without sauce
I freeze so much..baked cakes and cookies, fruits diced, dinner meals from rice to pasta to meat or poultry or pizza. Ginger/garlic,chilies,parsley and coriander, bread, buns, nuts, butter.I like my freezer stocked up for year round
cooked ground beef
cooked sausage (both patties and ground)
cooked salmon filets
beef stroganoff
spaghetti
pasta fagioli soup (freeze pasta separate to avoid mushy soup)
meatloaf
funeral potatoes (cheesy potatoes)
cheese enchiladas
rice
shredded cheese (I buy large blocks from Costco & shred my own to save $)
pretty much all leftovers that can easily be reheated in a microwave
Living alone, I often make more than I need for a recipe and freeze the remainder to take for lunch at work.
Hot peppers, various kinds. I love my hot peppers.
Ginger.
Fresh vegetables from my garden, or bought fresh during the summer.
Bread or bagels, occasionally (I don't eat much of either so the freezer comes in handy.)
Butter. (Ditto.)
