Has anyone else tried Pop Weaver brand of microwave popcorn? My mom used to buy it years ago. I ate so much I got tired of it. But now (sadly) I can hardly find it anymore.

It makes sense that no one knows about it. Who would buy a brand of popcorn with a proper name in the branding, but one you've never heard of? People buy Orville Redenbacher because of his silly commercials. Or else they will buy another brand based on a creative name (Pop Secret, ACT 2, etc.) thought up my a marketing genius.

But this is the brand used in concession stands at movie theaters and ball parks across the nation. Yes, it has "that taste" not found in any other brand you can buy in stores. Sadly, the name is not familiar to the average person.

Never heard of it either. Personally, I'm happy with a store brand like Krogers.

But this sounds like something that might be at Costcos or Sams since it sounds like its usually sold in bulk to theaters.

My local grocery store used to sell it. I just searched their website online and found it at Walmart (YES!) and various smaller stores.

No, it's not the same format sold to the theaters. It's packaged in in the standard bags like other home/microwave popcorn.

Thanks.

I know some stores near Atlanta still carry it, but I can't recall where I DID see it recently. It might have been Publix or Ingle's, or for that matter CVS or Rite Aid. Coupons still appear periodically in the Red Plum or Smart Source sections for the product. I have never bought it, but now that you say it has "that taste" I might even be less inclined to do so if "that taste" means fake butter flavor (accompanied by that nasty odor). Did you mean something positive by "that taste" in your posting? If so, I'll give it a try. I generally make my popcorn on the stovetop since most microwave brands have that fake buttery (or other) flavor and all seem to have that sludge oil/grease cooking medium in the bag.

No, by "that taste" I meant that the corn has a stronger flavor than any other popcorn. I just bought some of the "Light Butter" from Walmart. I can't tell yet if flavoring is exactly the same as the Toxic Yellow Sludge variety you get at the movies. It's kind of like other microwave popcorns, but with better natural flavor.

I don't understand the appeal of microwave popcorn at all.

It takes just a few extra minutes to make it on the stovetop, and the results are so much better; not to mention a lot cheaper.

Pop Weaver is a huge player in the popcorn concessions business, but not so much retail. I don't think it would be too hard to get your hands on it though. Here's some. (http://www.popcornsupply.com/Scripts/prodView.asp?idproduct=18525 - broken link)

Yeah, I like the stovetop variety also. I haven't had it like that in a while though.

I would love to have all those popcorn ingredients in your link. But I'm more of an easy/microwave cooker.

This is made by Weaver Popcorn in Van Buren, IN it was a tribute to the grandfather that started the company. You are correct it isn't a common product name with a catchy title. If you purchase popcorn off a boy scout it is most likely Weaver popcorn. Every August I believe it is they hold a popcorn festival in their town. Weavers use to make floats then throw bags of popcorn off to the parade watchers. Now days they just drive one of their semis in the parade and throw the popcorn from the semi trailer. They are a family company and support local school functions very well.

Thanks to all that buy this product from my home state.

It seems like I have seen it in TN but will have to check. I love the Golden Trails popcorn that the Boy Scouts sell. Mmm. Will look for the Pop Weaver!

I have tried it and I am sorry but for me it tastes no different than any other microwave popcorn which I do not get the appeal of.
