Dad gave me a gift card (no idea why) and I tried it again with Hubby.
The card was good for bar drinks so we sat at the bar, got hungry and ordered a veggie (black bean) burger and broccoli.
The bun was a white bun, clearly from a plastic sleave and luke warm without flavor.
The patty was pre-made and tasted like something that was in my freezer for a rainy day.
The broccoli also tasted previously frozen and was chopped as if it had been cut in to florets before being shipped to the restaurant - it was not fresh.
I will never eat there again, waste of money and time.
I would rather spend a bit more and go out of my way to go to a locally owned establishment with a chef and a creative kitchen team.
Here's the thing. And I'm not talking about anyone in particular, so please don't come at me w/o taking that into consideration first.
I don't know if it's just me or not, but I don't like it when others attempt to make it seem like my palate isn't sophisticated enough b/c I like certain foods/restaurants. I like fresh foods, expensive restaurants, and trained chefs w/ the best of them. I've literally eaten in more than 30 different countries at hundreds of different restaurants, food stalls, and even carts. However, I still like Chili's. Love McDonald's. Will throw you out of my to get to a Phillip's. If someone else doesn't that's fine, but no need for talking down.
Applebee's used to be pretty good, with great thick beefy hamburgers and onion straws. They would change their menu every few months and it was always unusual additions. But they seem to have gotten away from all of that - probably too expensive to special order the 'pre-chewed food' from suppliers.
They DID used to have a winter drink I really liked - it was a hot chocolate in a tall mug, with chocolate vodka added, whipped cream and little chocolate bits on top. It would warm you up in no time! Then everyone went to chocolate martinis and theirs failed miserably. Chili's, Ruby Tuesday's, TGIFriday's, etc, to me were just cheap imitations - and then Applebee's became the same cheap parody of themselves. Yawn. Now I eat at locally owned restaurants, not chains, and get better food, less fat, and less hype. My money goes for the food, not the cost of the franchise or advertising.
Nothing special at all about Chili's now and frankly between there and Applebee's, the food is horrible. I remember when going to Chili's back in the late 80s the food was a lot better then.
this is interesting, a 6 year old thread would be dug up for no apparent reason? Is there something missing here?
