Gran made terrific split pea soup, then taught Mom how to make it. Now I make the word's best split pea soup... according to me. Good soup fills your stomach and warms your heart. A nice piece of bread or a good beer or glass of wine (and memories) makes soup a destination. All of my favorite soups carry memories. I don't have old recipe cards, I wish that I did, but I watched and took it all in.

Good soup... is a work of art, an act of love.

Progresso Herb and Dumplings soup with a slice of white bread, torn into pieces, on top...
then you add the white pepper - but not TOO much!

While technically not a soup, my favorite is a bowl of homemade chili served with cornbread. If I have to choose a traditional soup, it would have to be chicken enchilada or vegetable beef with barley.

Last week I had some Cioppino Soup fresh from Whole Foods. It was amazing! Fresh scallops, shrimp, and mussels mixed with vegetables and a thick tomato base. I'm hooked.

I absolutely LOVE the corn chowder from Mimi's Cafe. I also like chicken noodle soup from Souplantation.

Avgolemono. It's absolutely wonderful if you're careful about stirring in the egg. The most refreshing soup in the world. It's still really good, even if you just use a chicken cube and rice.
