I don't know about that ancient history sounds kinda silly to me. Just because the average individual in this country has the attention span of two weeks doesn't make older information obsolete.

As a matter of fact someone once said "Those who ignore history are doomed to repeat it"
There is a lot of truth in that.

Ok, so by your rationalle cape coral was voted one of the best places to live, had one of the fastest growing populations in the country, had one of the lowest unemployment rates in the country.......but that was all in 2006. So none of it applies any more.

Maybe the poster was implying the same about 2007

Nice post Mike, it was good to hear so much valuable information without all the doom and gloom. We too like the Cape Coral area!

People who need to support themselves regardless of where they move to should not move without a job, agreed!

Default Cape Coral Growing Again

I know this is an old thread, but I thought I'd revive it since Cape Coral is growing again. It has made it on the Forbes Top 20 Fastest Growing Cities in the US for 2014. But does that mean that things have improved? Well... sort of.

Improvements
- The whole city getting city water & sewer
- More construction jobs
- Higher rent potential for investors to profit

Same Ole Stuff
- Lack of trees
- Super high rent prices for tenants
- Evil, mean and horrible property managers that make life hell
- Very few jobs
- Low Paying Jobs
- All the bugs you could ever imagine and very huge too
- Crime is still not great 36 out of 100 (100 is safest) Moderator cut: link removed, linking to competitor sites is not allowed

Hurricanes
I have lived here since 2004, right in time for Hurricane Charley. That one was the worst and Wilma did some damage too. But since then, no hurricanes here.

Crime
As far as crime, I've never had any issues with crime at all. But my dad's shop was broken into and they stole some equipment.

Entertainment
There really is nothing to do around here unless you want to hang out in open air malls and get rained on. I only moved here following my parents, but now they're leaving, so I'm out. This is no place for anyone that's not ready to retire. I'm in my 30's. If you want some big city entertainment, you have to drive 2.5 hours north or east to Tampa or Miami. Everything is too far away and you need your car for EVERYTHING. Many have jokingly said that this is where people come to die. No offense to Cape Coral lovers. The river and the sporadic palm trees are nice.

Bug/Creatures
There are entirely too many bugs here and they can make your life miserable especially when they infest your house. You got ghost ants invading your kitchen, fire ants diving into your pool by the thousands after it rains and weevils in your pantry eating all your rice and pasta. Oh, and occasional giant roaches on steroids breaking into your house as well as giant wasps that can be confused for drones, mosquitoes that make you their buffet, spiders, frogs and lizards. And I make sure the house is all sealed up, but somehow they still get in. If you manage to get out and do something fun like go to the beach, watch out for the noseeums, they will eat you alive. And if you feel like going kayaking, don't hit the alligators on the head with your paddle by mistake. I did that once, that could have gotten messy.

Renting a Place
If you're moving here and renting a place, be warned. Most of the property managers in this city are absolutely horrible. My parents, my sister and I have each had the displeasure of dealing with these awful property managers. They seem to only have the owner's best interest in mind and they will gladly screw over the tenants. Although there were some property owners saying their property managers never return their calls. Either way, they are horrible to deal with. If there is an issue with the home, unless its an emergency, the issue will only get fixed when they feel like it. It doesn't matter how many calls you make or emails you send. I guess their on Florida time. Also, they will try to pin as many problems on you so they or the owner doesn't have to dish out the money. If you refuse to pay, they will take it out of your deposit when you move out. If you're going to rent, you're better off renting from a private owner. Uriami Property Management and Century 21 Birchwood are the absolute worse. Avoid them like the plague if you can.

Conclusion
If you like wide open land scapes with very few trees, incredibly high humidity that makes the air liquify, entirely too many houses and no entertainment or culture, then Cape Coma is for you.

Cape Coral isn't growing there are no jobs. Even though it was vioted best place to retire it has 0% job growth outlook according to the same polls. It's the highest unemployment in the state.
Why would anyone move there? There's nothing there but some strip malls and houses . Not even beach access.

HaHa. Many people will not be happy anywhere! There is nothing to do here unless you like boating, fishing, beaches 30 minutes away or less, hundreds of great restaurants, scores of bars, off broadway theater nearby, two baseball teams and two football teams two hours away. There are plenty of churches of every denomination. What are people looking for that is not here or within a short drive?
Construction is starting to boom again, unemployment is down to 6.8%. Who would have thought that there would be bugs in a tropical climate! CC is rated the second safest city by the FBI and well below the national average for crime by City Data.

We are planning a move to Cape Coral as soon as our house sells. I can only hope that the people posting how horrible CC is have moved out before we get there. I would hate to live next door to some of the sweet people who seem to post nothing but negative comments. Some people are not happy anywhere.

I am relocating to CC from Miami now that my oldest son is starting kindergarten this year. I am beyond excited, I visited CC last weekend and fell in love with it. Can't wait to make new friends and for my boys to grow up in a family oriented community.
