I approve. 1000%, disappointed to see such an outcry of people who don't want this to even be built. The stockyards will BE LEFT ALONE and new buildings will be built. It's not like they are building a Wal-Mart of something.

There will always be those handful of NIMBYs who just hate to see anything new, even if what is there is being left alone.

This COULD have looked like West 7th, where they really are kicking some people out of their homes, but it isn't.

(BTW, there is something being demolished... The Swift Ruins. But who in their right mind would want to KEEP that?)

Finally somebody who agrees with me! The Swift and Armour plant shut down decades ago, yet some people to this day are still like "leave it alone" UH NO! Those have been run down, vandalized and even utilized for Jail scenes of a 2nd or 3rd world country. (Panama in Prison Break, a FOX show)

The only thing that complex in its current state would be good for is a haunted house type thing. And that would only be good for what, 2-3 weeks? A month at most?

It should have been mowed over DECADES ago...

Some folks are just so scared of change. This might be off topic but it has always amazed me how many folks are so concerned about issues that have no relevance to there own lives. Back on topic I think the development plan for the stockyards is great. What really in my opinion is going to take Fort Worth to the next level is the development that take place after this plan is built out. In other words the development that take place outside or around this master plan.

That's not off topic at all. It just goes along with change. Some people are just against it, regardless.

The beginning of the Hemphill-Berry St. Urban Village, 1 of 16.

Hemphill-Berry streetscape work to begin soon.

Urban Village Master Plan

Quote:
In June, the City Council approved a contract for $670,337 to construct pedestrian and streetscape improvements in the urban village along Hemphill Street. Construction is scheduled to begin in August.

Improvements will include new sidewalks, curbs and gutters; colored textured concrete; pavement enhancements; pedestrian lights; landscaping and irrigation; and benches and trash receptacles with public art features.

The Hemphill/Berry Urban Village, located south of downtown, is a target for revitalization by the City of Fort Worth and the surrounding neighborhood and business communities. This village is in Council District 9.

I love that plan, I saw it a while back and was amazed at the planning the city had drawn up. I did have one question, I work in South Fort Worth and frequently drive by Hemphill and Berry. Does the city buy back the houses from the people who are currently living in them?? I saw that they had the intention of building townhomes (which I am all for, I think at our citys age we should begin building up not out) But how does that work for the people who currently live there? Are they forced out of their homes or what? Specificially on Hemphill across from the Private Catholic School.
