My grandfather was a Protestant from Ireland who emigrated in the 1900's. His first name was Malby. We kids all found that hilarious, and my cousins named their boy band after him. I can't find it in any google search other than there was an English soldier with that last name who became a Lord in Ireland in the 1500's. Apparently my grandfather's family was very into the royal family, so maybe that's it.

Quite a few actually... Too many to list honestly.

Bartholamew DuPuy
One of the last names my family came across was strange and it's way back on the tree. The last name of VASA and they came from Sweden. Someone has to recognize that one, right?
Cecil Bowsher(Actually Cecilia Boucher so a female name)

I was looking through a census record last night. Not my relative, someone named their son 'Boy'.

That was MY first thought when I read that. Was wondering if anybody else was going to pick up on it.

The weirdest names in my family were: Umberto, Assunta, Philomena and for some reason a Gertrude thrown into that 100% Italian mix.

I have an ancestor who people claim lived to be 110-120. His exact age is not known and I assumed it was exaggerated. But the latest date I have found for his birth is 1722 and he died in 1832 so he was at least 110.

I've read that a lot of parents wouldn't officially name their children until they reached two or three years of age. Reason being that so many died in infancy or early childhood, many were just called baby or something similar until they were fairly certain that the child would survive.

"Rock". Such a great, masculine name. I had daughters but I would have named a son "Rock".

I was researching my brother-in-law's family, and he has a Mormon ancestor whose first name was Ransom. I thought it was pretty cool, and thought they should have named my nephew that They decided No, but I'm still hoping they'll name a dog Ransom.
