Not only this, but Cumberland Gap, VA is closer to Montgomery, AL than it is to its own state capital of Richmond. It is also closer to St. Louis than it is to Alexandria.
Part of the Cumberland Gap was formed by a meteorite strike.

If you live in Baltimore, Maryland, you are within 150 miles of 5 state capitals and the Nation's capital. You could hit all 6 of them in an approximate 10-hour drive following this route:
-Annapolis, MD
-Dover, DE
-Trenton, NJ
-Harrisburg, PA
-Washington, DC
-Richmond, VA

Cumberland Gap VA is closer to Jacksonville, Biloxi, Milwaukee, and Buffalo than it is to Chincoteague Island, Virginia.

NYC and Philly would be close to this dynamic
Philly
Harrisburg
Trenton
Dover
Annapolis
DC
Hartford (170ish miles)
NYC
Trenton
Albany
Harrisburg
Hartford
Dover (170ish) actually for some reason would have thought Providence was closer than Dover
Providence (180ish)
also you could probably do a Harrisburg, Trenton, Dover, Annapolis, DC in 5-6 hours drive
If you eliminate the requirement of the nation's capital, there are many points in New England that are within 150 miles of six state capitals. An example is Brattleboro VT. It is within a 150 mile drive of Albany NY, Montpelier VT, Concord NH, Providence RI, Hartford CT and Boston MA. Brattleboro is also about 220 miles from August ME. I am not sure, but there may be locations within 150 miles of SEVEN state capitals.

Well, it depends on how you measure. If you eliminate road distances and measure as the crow flies, Nelson NH (about 23 miles NE of Brattleboro) is within 150 miles of Augusta ME, as well as Albany NY, Montpelier VT, Concord NH, Providence RI, Hartford CT and Boston MA. This is the only area of the country where this can work, due to the size of the states.

Yeah, I was figuring there'd be a similar spot in New England to hit a bunch of state capitals. I am just much more familiar with the Mid-Atlantic, having lived between Philly and DC most of my life. It always surprises those in the midwest/mountain/plain states how close our cities are.
In El Paso, TX, you're barely within a day's drive to both the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans, about 800 miles to each.
