While some may think this question is absurd (I personally believe Latinos will assimilate and many already are), I know many on the forum always associate Latinos with an alien culture. Like when certain parts of the country have high Latino populations, those areas seen as less a part of the surrounding region (hint: Texas discussions).
It's like Latinos are often times seen as outside of the mainstream, and like their existence is wholly un-American (as in United States American). Like if a Latino person from the South came in to C-D and said they were Southern I am sure some would beg to disagree.
I think Latinos are seen as un-American due to their immigration being more recent. But as the years go by, they will be absorbed into the mainstream and no one will have a problem seeing them the same way we see Italians or Polish people. I think assimilation isn't only one-sided. For a group to assimilate they have to also be seen as American by the "mainstream" and not only by themselves. People have no problem associating Southern European traditions with being American but many still see Latin American traditions as un-American despite the fact that both aren't from the US.
Latin America is much larger and has more ppl than north America.... so it'll be the other way around. North Americans will assimilate into Latin culture.
He feels threatened by latinos and Hispanic culture, so he wants reassurance from us that they will indeed assimilate.
You kidding me? I don't care if Latinos keep acting "Latin" (whatever that means).
My family is from Southern Europe and believe it or not, there is carryover from that culture to Latino culture. I am no way threatened by Latinos in any way. Besides, I love Latin women, especially Dominicanas, Boricuas, Mexicanas, Argentinas, y Cubanas.
No te preocupes de mis sentimientos sobre los Latinos. (I hope I spelled that right)

I don't know if this is sarcasm, but if it's true then many people in the US will stop being so prudish. I love how Latin Americans don't stigmatize sex the way the US does. I know that's not part of the discussion but just an observation.
My mistake. It was that whole Hispanic isn't a race thing. Still another one of your strange threads to get people riled up about race.
