Well, when I was growing up on Long Island, one was daring if one confused/conflated Sicilian with Italian.

That said, as others noted, stereotypical folks from the NY metro area do very much stand out in the Deep South. And not in a good way. Not that you'd be told that. The communication style is, if you're white, more passive aggressive.

Now part of me is skeptical about this, and i really do not see how someone who is a fully assimilated American of Italian descent can look out of place in Texas(which is diverse anyway)
Old thread, but I thought it was funny.
Having grown up in Arkansas and lived in Little Rock for several years, I'd say you'd seem like an immigrant from New Jersey, nothing else.
I knew people that moved there from New Jersey and the northeast. They didn't stand out that much because it's a big enough town to attract people from all over.
Even in small-town Arkansas, the people I came across from New Jersey blended in because they were blue-collar and not overly pretentious. That probably speaks to the type of New Jersian that would move to a place like Arkansas on purpose because they liked it.

Generally, as long as you're chill and can take a few potential good-natured jabs upon arrival, you'd do fine just about anywhere.

These threads about the deep South are entertaining but extremely ignorant.
