Yes and at one point Ohio was the west coast.

I always had a feeling Detroit was actually the south. This confirms it.

Ultimately, we can all look to the United States Census, which divides the nation into regions. At no point in time has Missouri ever been officially grouped with the South, not ever. Even during the Civil War, Missouri was a border state that never officially seceded from the Union, even if it allowed slavery under the Missouri Compromise. Yeah, you might find certain references here and there that group MO more with the South, but there are FAR more resources that put it solidly in the Midwest and/or North. So when you ask "if you had to put MO in the North or South", it's totally illogical to say it's Southern because it really has never been classified as a southern state.
Agree. This is where Missouri differs from even Maryland and DC, which are classified by the Census as Southern. Missouri is not and has not ever been classified as Southern.

You can say parts of the state lean Southern and have straight Southern influences/characteristics, but the state itself has never been classified as Southern.

What's the point in having these arguments everyday if there is no definition of the south. Some will be arguing geography, others will be arguing culture, others will be arguing architecture, others will argue time if sunset.

It just make no sense because the arguments are not over the same thing. Maybe it is time to settle on what is the south and then go from there.

There is a definition but the good people of DMV don’t want to be associated with those people in polite company, So they pretend they’re not southern.

Agree. The US Census, which defines boundaries and regions via “Census Tracts,” has an objective classification for regions, and is used as the “official” source for all things debated on this site.

Yet for some reason, people forget about this or want to ignore it when it is cited in these North-South debates that people keep running around in circles with….
