True. Non Americans must look at the irrelevant gate-keeping done on here & laugh. Actually, there is an argument to be made that there is no such thing as the South (or the North) and it's simply a mind set romanticized by people. This mind set has been studied and isn't as far fetched as one may believe, especially in "Southerners" since the civil war, who needed a cultural identity to rally around. They created imaginary lines to form an "us versus them" mentality to cope with defeat.

I can name about 5 forums where there are cringe worthy "British" debates/gatekeeping. Please humble yourself and don't try to condescend on a basis you are unfamiliar with. Full stop and retreat.
And this is isnt gatekeeping, this is defining borders in a country 25x larger than the UK with 7x the amount of people.

And I’m sure the continent of Europe, a more comparable size to the US, has never once gone into debates or even wars about western or Eastern Europe, what is Northern Europe, etc. In fact I believe such a war was still playing out less than 100 years ago
