Yeah I would think Beverly Hills would be the most well-known suburb in America, if it's considered a suburb.

Los Angeles city is honestly 80-90% suburb. Pretty much most of South LA in it's entirety is built as suburban single family homes and ofcourse the "Valley". The only "urban" parts of the city are certain parts of West and Downtown with their multi units. So Los Angeles would be the most famous suburb. LA is just something else, hard to describe.

Strictly by national name recognition...

Beverly Hills is the winner.

Honorably mentions to Greenwich and Laguna Beach. I'm sure there are a few others, but drawing a blank at the moment.

Then you have Beverly Hills and La Jolla, but those are different in the sense that they are basically upscale towns/neighborhoods within a major city.

If you're talking suburban in the true sense of the word I would say Greenwich. That name just elicits wealth and elite bedroom community of NYC for generations.
For name recognition, Beverly Hills would be ahead of Greenwich.

Do they have to be famous for being a suburb?

Because like Dearborn MI is pretty famous for being where Ford actually is.

Miami Beach is really famous.

Salem, Mass is Famous, as is Plymouth.

Arlington VA is famous

Newark, maybe Jersey City is the most famous not NYC city.

But they’re not famous for being suburbs (although Dearborn/Ford are deeply associated with Detroit) but rather on their own accord.

While Beverly Hills is famous for being LA. The Silocon Valley towns are famous for being part of SF.

Buckhead is in the city of Atlanta. It is suburban but not a suburb.
