I would think Houston would be much higher....around 3 million maybe, but i guess the experts know best. By then Houston will definitely be knockin on Chicago's door.

Ok i dont mean to start any trouble, just curious.. you say that the Omaha Metro MSA-Including Council Bluffs will be at 2 million in 2028?
How is this so, and where is this coming from, Like Albuquerque Example: Will reach 1,312,508 in 2020-2025 you also have to remember that were america's second fastest growing city. The Westland Development Group is waiting on approval of building 160,000, which will be given the green in three weeks, so i find it though to belive Omaha will reach 2 million that would be a crazy boom?! i also add that ABQ's Metro Passed Omaha's

Albuquerque MSA 729,653 2000. 835,120 2007.............. +14.45%
Omaha-Council Bluffs MSA 767,140 2000. 829,890 2007.... +8.18%

^ yeah, I'd brought that up before. It's a nice city, but I certainly don't see it growing by 250% in 20 years. That's beyond Vegas type growth, and we're not seeing that levels in Nebraska.

If you include Lincoln, you're still only sitting at 1.1 million. I don't see over 900,000 people moving to the area in the next 20 years. Plus Lincoln and Omaha have 30 miles of open farmland between them, that's a LOT of open land to fill in before you could rationally concider them "one" area. With gas prices and our new economy, I don't think we're going to keep going on our auto-centric eating up of massive amounts of land for just 1,000-2,000 people per square mile. I think we're finally waking up that we need to create a more dense country if we're going to handle the needed movement of people from jobs/homes/social settings.

Well the people that made those estimates are out of there mind!.. impossible growth.. unless omaha can build 400,000+ homes in the next few years plus the same with council bluffs 200,000+ homes..

See albuquerque's Westland developent has plans to build 320,000 homes, Phases 1-4 in the west side, Rio Rancho should throw up another 110,000 homes in a few years Westland is also the major developer. Both cities will be boooomin' after the economy gets back on its feet.. i mean were still growing faster than other cities which is good.

I could understand if Omaha was on Americas top 10 fastest growing cities but it's not..

So 2 million, i'm not buy'in it one bit.. it will be in the ball park of maybe a million 210,000 short of us.

this is not a highly probable projection.

May I say that the estimates of the Census bureau aren't the most reliable things? Wait till 2010 then we'll see if this is realistic or not.

I think the higher projection is related to the fact that the Omaha and Lincoln metro areas will merge in the next 20 years.

True true, are city planning office. took our projections.. we dont depend on those horrible census predictions,.. we did our homework, but i will say that there is a bright future for omaha i hope it just takes the right development, cuz obviously the development ahead of us is spread out housing everywhere..and thats the worst kind of development.
