The California Department of Finance says that 4,045,873 people live in the city of Los Angeles as of 2008. The official census won't be until 2010 of course. I couldn't find any projections for the city of Los Angeles itself, but I would estimate the city at around 4.3-5 million people maybe by 2030. That is if we don't fall into the ocean before then

The Greater Los Angeles area is expected to have a population of 21,808,471 in 2020.

By 2028, Omaha is projected to be at 2 million MSA, with 800,000 living there now, it will probably included Lincoln too which pushes us up to 1.15 million now.
