Can Houston increase it's overall density by 1380 people per square mile?

Not to mention Chicago's already bigger by nearly a million people and shows no signs of stopping. Now Houston might be growing too, but so is Chicago.

Of course Houston can increase its density. Its doing that now. Or have you never been there and are just going by what others say here on CD.

Imagine if Houston had Chicagos density numbers............it would have 7,409,500. Chicago doesnt have the room to do that. HOUSTON DOES!!!

Why are you people crowing about this?

The last thing I want is for my city is to add a couple hundred thousand people each decade.

Chicago's growth will always be tempered by those bitter cold winters and the negative effects of the southern migration.

That is actually a pretty true statement, I belive Houston would/has the ability to annex some neighboring towns as well, as continuing to grow within current boundaries. However with current developer trends, and economic issues, Houston's growth will most likely slow.

Houston's growth definitely won't slow, as many are moving back to the Inner City a lot more know. Also, Houston is done annexing. It's actually giving up land for towns (for example The Woodlands) to form their own city (of course, they have to pay Houston back some).

It no doubt will slow down. Every city does. When it happens, they need to improve on their density even more. There are so many ranch style single family homes though so it'll never see the type of density that Chicago has. But it can get to 10k inside the loop one day. For that to happen, the inner loop has to increase it's population by 500,000 people.

Do you know of where to find the density facts for Inner Loop Houston? It would be interesting to see what it is.

You can look at the density numbers for the zip codes that make up the Inner Loop and use that as a rough estimate of the sort of density in there.

77003- 3922 people per square mile
77004- 5572
77005- 6402
77006- 9396
77007- 2916
77009- 7604
77021- 4548
77026- 4502
77098- 7696

Thats just a rough look at densities of some inner loop zip codes.

Hey banx, the title of the thread is "Chicago will push 3,000,000 again" not "will Houston pass Chicago in population"

Regarding the OP's question, I think Chicago will get to 3 million again as it seems people are migrating to all the highrises in the city to take advantage of closeness to work in downtown and all the other activities there.

Wow, that's basically suburban L.A. density right there, if these numbers are accurate, Houston needs a lot of work in the density department, not sounding good by these numbers....

btw, I'm sure Chicago will hit 3,000,000 soon. The city is basically reinventing itself, and it's also a huge immigrant magnet especially for immigrants coming from Latin-America, Africa, and Eastern Europe.
