There are three in the whole Portland metro area (not counting Clark County, Washington where there are three more). One is inside the city limits and the other two are in the "less attractive" suburbs.
In Eugene there are 2 in the city on the outer suburban edges and one right next door in Springfield.
Here in Grants Pass there is, unfortunately, a big disgustingly-ugly-box of a Wal-Mart Supercenter.
Wal-Marts make a killing in (while killing) the smaller towns and suburbs

Agree. In Rome we still have a thriving downtown district, but Wal-Mart doesn't make it any easier for us to maintain it. I guess it is the people's decisions in the end where they spend their dollars, but WM makes it easy to forsake those little family run businesses that have always made our downtowns come alive with character. Rather not have em.
None is NYC ( thank God! ) I'm more of a mom-and-pop type of place. Why give my money to billionaires, while the small guy is struggling; especially in this economy.
I shouldn't be answering for the other person, but I would speculate because it's unethical. Wal-Mart is the worst of the big box stores and it's bad news for communities both here and across the globe where its products are manufactured, for suppliers (Wal-Mart uses strongarm leveraging techniques to get those lower prices), and for employees. It's just one of those all-around bad, typical, do-anything-to-make-a-buck American corporations.
Tucson isn't blanketed with them. There are four Wal-Mart Supercenters in the ENTIRE Tucson area (there are 1 million people in Tucson and its suburbs). There is a big-box ordinance in the city of Tucson restricting Wal-Mart Supercenters within city limits. Tucson does have a couple of Wal-Mart Neigbohood Martkets and two regular Wal-Marts, but only one Supercenter.
NONE, well there's one in the next town over, but that's it in all of Bergen County that i know of.
