The best beaches in GA are located south of Savannah. In fact, Georgia in general doesn't showcase it's beaches as much as neighboring states (FL and SC) so I doubt it makes a "significant' difference in the numbers. Savannah receives visitors because it's a historic city that interest millions of people each year.

No way. Being close to the coast on the nation's primary north-south highway is about as good as it gets.

Savannah has 12 million visitors a year because it's a great city...The interstate or beaches has nothing to do with it...It's an unique city with tons of history.
This is true, but I wouldn't say being on I-95 doesn't help. Savannah is very accessible in that regard and this is undoubtedly one reason why Savannah gets more visitors than Charleston.

It could be argued that Macon's location can serve the metro well. That's the only Metro that can basically grow into Atlanta especially if Atlanta starts growing south. I'm aware of I-95 and it being the most traveled interstate but Macon does have an argument IMO.

I think we can all agree that because of Macon's location, there's no reason why it shouldn't already be much larger than it is. Maybe that's about to change. Sounds like a lot of good things are starting to happen in Macon.

Agreed...With the consolidation...The city may go in the right direction.

To say Macon is better real estate than Savannah is beyond dishonest but moving on.......

Can we all agree that Augusta has a geographic disadvantage compared to Savannah, Macon and even Columbus?

If Atlanta grew south to Macon,Macon wouldn't have a MSA anymore. It will be apart of Atlanta's CSA.

Doesn't make any sense...Athens and Gainesville is apart of Atlanta's CSA but have their own MSA's....

I would put Columbus last because of the spur (I-185)...At least Augusta has I-20 going through the city. If I-185 extended south to Florida then Columbus may have an advantage.

Columbus is not stuck between 2 state capitals. I-20 only serves a connector between the two. Which make Augusta drive-by country. But some how some way Augusta has managed to become the 2nd largest metro (and city at one point).
