What would the populations of Augusta, Macon and Columbus be if they were not all three consolidated with their respective counties? Still had their original city limits before consolidation? Smaller than Savannah.

After Atlanta, Savannah is the 2nd-largest independent (non-consolidated) city in Georgia. People seem to forget this distinction. Even if it were consolidated with Chatham County (which is not going to happen) it would still far away be No. 2 after Atlanta.

Chatham County is on target to have more than 300,000 people by the next Census. No other 2nd-tier metro county comes close.

What census are you referring to? Columbus is slightly over 198,000 while Augusta is slightly under 197,000....

It's so easy to show pictures like that because of a traffic accident.

Yes but the picture is bigger...

Columbus has grew nearly 9,000 people since the last census while Augusta has grew 2,000. I think in the next census Georgia will have two cities over 200,000 people....Atlanta and Columbus with Augusta close behind.

I completely agree. It's pretty perplexing, but something tells me it has to do with the lack of a visionary, progressive agenda on the part of past city leaders.

That's because most of the traffic is outside of downtown. Like Augusta's...

Give me Savannah over any of these cities anyday. It's downtown can arguably stand up to Atlanta's in some factors.
