We’re not poor by any mans, but in our city the median family income is $168,000, and home price $900,000. We are comfortable but about $50k below that income, so yes, we are happily living as one of the poorer in a rich city. We couldn’t afford this house now on our income, but we bought it in 1993 for just $190,000. The advantage to a richer city is great schools, many beautiful parks, no crime, no homeless, no graffiti, and no big box stores with the traffic and garbage that comes with them.
