Those who decide to participate in pornography are consenting adults who choose the lifestyle. I agree that pornography dehumanizes women into becoming sexual objects - things, commodities. Women in pornographic movies are often raped and forced to act in degrading ways. And viewers of these films come to believe that these women enjoy these acts, leading men into believing that this is the way all women like to be treated. I don't think its possible to ban porn at all, and how? With the advent of self-upload sites like porntube, youporn, pornhub etc., people are producing their own porn.
Morality cannot be controlled by laws. People will make choices regardless of what the law states, and banning porn would make things worse. Just telling someone that they should not do something makes it more desirable.
You are aware the women aren't kidnapped and trucked to a location in the dead of night, correct? Lots of women make lots of money in the business; several women own production companies which hire the actors and film crews. They often direct the action. I doubt they feel dehumanized...that is what folks as yourself see. As far as becoming sexual objects or commodities...that's the point. If there is no commodity there is no cash flow. It's the same with any entertainer. Kim, Miley, GaGa, Kylie and the rest are sexual commodities in some sense, aren't they? Now we have Caitlyn. Hopefully he will keep clothes on his 65 yo body.
Raped and forced to act in degrading ways? They are getting paid to act and sex is part of it. Good acting, no? How about women who act as if they are being beaten up in movies? You can watch those on Lifetime 24/7; weird, right?
Amateur footage may be a bit more questionable because that is usually idiots with cameras recording anything just like people on a street do. Amateurs are people making videos of themselves having sex as seen on the internet - practice makes perfect.

Is this from your own interaction with porn and the men/women who view it? You do know women behave as those in porn scenes everyday around the globe, correct? Women have learned more about sex since it appeared on the internet than ever before. It's how-to videos for those who want to learn. Young teen boys and girls are watching together and know what to do. Everyday. They also make videos of it.

I don't look at porn but have been surfing the net and found myself clicking on interesting links only to be shocked. I was looking up youtube one evening and saw lubetube listed and it is a porn site that has so many categories that appeal to every fetish imaginable. It is crazy what is out there and what is being done to these young women. Yes they get paid for their performance but I don't see how they enjoy it.
I think it is a pretty sad business that promises to make the young women rich but instead it chews them up and spits them out often with a STD, no money, a drug problem and shame.
I have that Netflix show on my que but haven't watched it yet.

As porn has become more popular and more "depraved" do you know what hasn't happened? Rape and abuse of women hasn't increased. Women's rights haven't been eroded or removed, they've been bolstered.
If pornography were having such a horrible impact on society through it's supposed dehumanization of women then why aren't the women in Western culture treated more like the women in Muslim culture? You know, where women are beaten for leaving the house alone and pornography and masturbation are outlawed?
Hard not to notice that no one in this thread admits to watching porn themselves, but somehow they know that its pretty awful and getting really bad, and worse, the women aren't having any fun, etc. Oh, but it shouldn't be regulated. Why not? With the resources about to be freed up from de-criminaiizing weed, the government should turn their attention to getting rid of porn completely. Most street prostitution has been ended in my lifetime. Good riddance. Porn should be even easier to put out of business for good. At least domestically. We can't control what other countries allow, but at least American women would not be subject to exploitation.

I am women and I do not think porn is bad for women.As long it is consenting. I enjoy reading white guys and black girls having sex. I write sex scenes too. Some people just afraid of women's sexuality and just try to oppress them.
I am sure that some high paid porn "actresses" have say so what they want to do, and probably have their favorite partners. BUT, there are many porn movies made with foreign girls, especially those from Eastern Europe and I have serious doubts they actually know and understand what they are expected to do. We all know about the "sex trafficking" and the ways how they are forced to earn money, to "pay" for their travel and accommodation, their have their passports taken away and many are slaves, locked in the rooms and are not allowed to make phone calls or go out. Some are able to finally escape, and they they tell their part of the story.
Also, here you can read statements made by former porno stars, because I don't think you really know what's going on. And how would you? Seems to me that you are one of the (many) people who just don't want to acknowledge the dirty site of this business.

Porn will never go back in the closet since everyone can watch it on their phone. Porn industry needs address their issues before the government does. Nowadays,there are ways to hide condoms from the viewer from seeing.
