Crime is rising, particularly in the ghetto areas of every major city.

Retail crime is consistently high. Shoplifting is simply a fact of life for retailers.

We live in a disorderly, violent society.

Without police, it would be every man for himself.

Americans need to decide whether they want an orderly society such as existed in the 1950s and earlier, or a very disorderly and dangerous society dominated by ideological cliques such as has existed since the 1960s.

Most Americans younger than 80 don't even remember what it was like to live in a safe city. They used to make movies about detectives solving murder cases, because murder was rare. Now, 19 people get shot to death in Chicago out of a hundred shootings in one weekend, including a 3-year-old and a 7-year-old, and it barely makes the news. People would rather talk about police brutality.

If we actually "defund" the police, the money won't go to fancy social workers and such. It'll go to other budgetary needs, like lining the pockets of politicians and heads of construction unions, corruption among county commissioners, over-priced office supplies, private security details for city council members in Minneapolis, etc.

Since March, there's been a big run on the gun stores. People are stocking up, preparing for lawlessness and the dreaded "9-1-1, no one is available to take your call!" type of recorded message.

Be careful what you wish for, people.
It sounds like you haven't read the earlier posts, explaining what "defund the police" really means, not what it appears on the surface to mean. "Defund" =/= "abolish".

I read the whole thread. Defund is defund. You can't get something for nothing, and replacing cops with social workers for "non violent" situations is wishful thinking.

Suggestion: "REFORM the police."

This hits the nail on the head. "Defund the police" is an unfortunate slogan. Retrain the police. Reform the police.

While we're at it, however, how about if some money goes to these inner city communities for education: something along the lines of: police are not evil, so stop running from the police, stop resisting arrest, stop fleeing in your car when you get pulled over.

Let's face it, many (not all) of these incidents have been exacerbated by the individuals who have been lawfully stopped by the police.

We voted a tax increase on ourselves to fund MORE police. We did not vote a tax increase for items in your laundry list such as "job training, community centers, affordable housing."

If there is any police defunding, that money needs to come back to us in the form of lower property taxes.

Your alarmist predictions are ridiculous.
And it's not a six shooter..

Please read my OP again because I don't think you 'get it' at all.
No matter, things will change because they must, whether everyone 'gets it' or not.

Haven't had a crime in ten years, 900 homes..............

That isn't even possible.

No maids stealing old people's jewelry, no stealing checks?
No date rapes? No drug crimes?
Not a single DUI? Crash/leaving the scene?

Do you realize Palm Beach is one of the wealthiest, heaviest policed area in the country? There are 100mm homes there. Yet they have crime, murders/rapes/grand theft auto, property/drug crimes. I just looked it up, they had 222 arrests in the past year.

Yet your HOA with those electric gates and the $10 an hour guards stops all crime?

Nope. That is completely inaccurate. Crime is dropping and has been for a while. Even in large metro areas.

No one should die because of a dui or alleged counterfeiting. Period. Police officers are not judge, jury, and executioner. White murderers seem to get water and Burger King - the officers can handle a drunk guy?

You mentioned retail theft, shoplifting is increasing steadily...which I do agree with...but how have police helped with this? Considering the crimes are increasing fast, doesnt seem police are that effective in stopping or reducing it.

It doesnt seem to me, that police are held to any goals, if you look at shoplifting/ theft crimes, drug crime, drug related crime, these are all increasing...Cannot keep trying the same thing if its not working, eventually have to accept defeat and come up with something else to combat crime.
